DETAGHABLE TUB-SUPPORT.
. Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented. Apr. 8, 1913.
Application filed March 11, 1912. Serial No. 683,056.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRYJEI. HELD, a citizen of the United States, residing at of WVinnebago, and State of lVisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Detachable Tub-Supports, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in detachable tub supports.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple and efficientdevice for temporarily attaching supporting legs to wash tubs and the like, and the same is explained by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a side view of the tub, part in section, in connection with the supporting devices, and Fig. 2 represents one of the several supporting legs detached from the tub.
Like parts are identified by the same reference numerals in both views.
1 is the bottom and 2 the sides of a tub of ordinary construction.
3 is a supporting leg, three or more being used for supporting each tub.
4 is a bracket for attaching the leg to the tub. The bracket 4 is preferably formed of cast metal and is provided with two transversely arranged lugs a, each of which is provided with a vertical aperture 5 for the reception of the rods 6. The upper end of the rod 6 is provided with a hook 7, which hook is adapted toengage the upper edge of the tub, whilethe lower ends of said rods are provided with screw threads for the reception of the nuts 8.
9 is a compression spring, which is interposed between the nut 8 and the upper lug 4, and its tension is such that it is adapted by its recoil to "hold the hook 7 in engagement with the upper edge of the tub. The lower end of the bracket 4 is rigidly secured to the leg 3 by bolts 9. Thus it will be obvious that when such legs are in place against the bottom of the tub, the hooks 7 are drawn up until they engage the upper edge of the tub, when, as soon as they are released, the hooks 7 are drawn down firmly over the upper edge of the tub, while the legs of the tub are simultaneously drawn up firmly against the bottom of the tub by the expansion of said springs between the nuts 8 and the upper retaining lugs 4, whereby the several legs are securely retained in place. It will be understood that the fastening device may be readily and quickly adjusted to tubs of different heights by turning the rods 6 upwardly or downwardly in said nuts, while the tension of the springs will retain the hooks 7 in engagement with the upper edge of the tub. It will also be understood that the legs may be readily detached from one tub preparatory to attaching the same to another tub simply disengaging the hooks 7 from the edge of the tub with which the legs are connected.
Having thusdescribed my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a device of the described class, the combination of a tub, a plurality of legs, a metallic bracket rigidly connected with the upper ends of each of said legs, a sliding rod provided at its lower end with a screw thread and a nut on said thread and at its upper end with a hook adapted to engage over the upper edge of a tub, a spring bearing on said nut and interposed between it and a lug projecting from the upper end of said bracketsaid lug being adapted to also serve as a retaining guide for the upper end of said rod, said rod being adapted as it is turned downwardly and upwardly in said nut, to shorten and lengthen the protruding end of said rod and thereby adapt the same to fit tubs of different heights.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
HENRY H. HELD. lVitnesses:
JAS. B. ERWIN, TRMA D. BREMER.
