IMPROVEMENT IN ARG-AND GAS-BURNERS. V
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making pa rt of the same.
Be it known that I, JIM B. FULLER, of Norwich, in the county of New London and State of Connecticut,-have invented a new'and useful Improvement in Argand Gas-Burners, of which the following isa specification.
' My invention consists in an Argand gas-burner, constructed chiefly of two metal tubes, one being fitted tightlywithin the other, and provided with channels for conveying the gas to the chamber, and also. provided with side air-passages for supplying air to the interior of the flame, asfully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawing- .Figure 1 is .a vertical section, and v v Figure'2, a horizontal section through the line A B. 'ai ep'rcsents a nietalitube, forming the exterior of the burner, and also forming thenut by'which the 'burneriis secured to the gaspipe. I
The upper end of this tubeiis enlarged, so as to form the annular gas-chamber c. a I D is a tube which forms the interior of the burner, and also forms the'cover of the gas-chamber, or in-,
stead of this cover, an'ordinary lava or porcelain tip maybe used;
There are channels c pressed orotl'ierwise made in the side of the tubeb, through which gas passes. up
into the chamber, the tube a forming the outside of said channels. There maybe one ormore of these channels, and they may be made in either the inside The inside tube is forced tightly into the outside one, and the air-passagesd are made through both.
The top of the burner is perforated with small holes .1, in the usual manner.
The not 9 may bemade separate, and may extend up nearly or quite to the bottom of the tube b, and
small apertures may be made at the upper end of said nut, for the passage of gas into the burner. It will be seen that the gas enters the burner at g,
and passes upward through the channel cinto the annular chamber 0, and out at the holes j1 It will also be seen that the tight joint between the "tubes at and b willprevent the escape of gas at the apertures d. w
The form of the burner may be changed to facilitate the. process of manufacture, the distinguishing feature of the invention being the fitting together of the tubes a and]; with reference to the-channels c and' apertures d. r
The chimney, and the arrangement for holding it, maybe of any ordinary construction, and may be attached to the burner in any convenient manner.
Iclaim I r V 1. In an Argand burner, the tubes a and b, fitted together substantially as shown and described, and
provided with the channels 0, one or more, made between said tubes,'substantially as and for the purpose specified. I
2. .The tubes a and b, the channels 0, the air-passages d, and the chamber 0, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose described.
