on theliue a; :1: in figs. 1 and 2.
Like letters refer-to like parts in each ligure.
The nature of this invention relates to the construction of a case for holding and measuring shot, and is more especiallydesigned for the use of retailers of that article.v I
The invention consists in a new and ingenious ar y rangement of the various parts for laccomplishing the desired object, as more `fully hereinafter explained.
gInthe accompanying"drawing- A represents a case, preferably of sheet metal, which maybe made as ornamental or plain as desired.
l Within this case are arranged,`side by side, a series of compartments, B, more or less, as occasion may require, the lowerportionsof which are funnetshaped, as shown at ,and terminate with anorice, b, somewhat smaller than the tubeiG, into which said orifice opeis. i
The lower ends of the tubes C project throughthe sides of the case A, as shown in fig. 2. A lever, D, is pivoted in any suitable manner to thc `side of the tube C, andis connect-ed with the valveslides (L d', which have a horizontal movement through the slots It t'iinthe side ofthe tube, and which, when closed,`"il1 the crosssctionof'the tube, and prevent the shot from running out.y i
` E is a spring, secured to the side ofthe tube above the fulcrum-standard F, to which the lever is pivotecl, and in its operation compels the valve-slide d to close 'the tube, while it withdraws the valve-slide l from the tube, until the stem H, (one end of which rests against the upper end of the lever D while the otherend projects through the side of the case A, and is` provided with a suitable head or buttonfor the purpose,) is pressed inward by the operator, when t-lie position of the valve-slide is reversed, thereby cutting off the iow of shot from the 'compartment B into thetnbe O, and
allowing the `shot in the tube to run out into a sut"y able bagA at the 'mouth K of the tube.
The slide-valves cl d should be placed at such distances, one above the other, that the space in the tube B between said valves should hold a given weight of shot, say, one pound, or moi'e,`or less.
The case should be provided with a proper' cover,` K, which, being removed, will allow the various compartments to bc filled with the shot to be sold, while a small quantity of the same size should be placed in the corresponding samplefeases L, which should be covered with a glass, to prevent the shot contained therein from being mixed by careless handling.
These sample-cases or boxes are rigidly secured vto the front of the case, aiidshould be numbered or lettered, to poi-respond with the interior compartments B and the stems H, which project through the opposite side of the ease.
. lVhat I claim as my invention, aiid'desireto se months K projecting through said case, in combination with the stein H, the Alever I), the springE, land the valve-slides d d', when constructed as described and shown, and as and for the purposes set forth.
