Description

Ol/VARI) B. GRIEL, OF LANCASTER. PENNSYLVANIA.
DISPENSING APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. lo. 15H3.
Application tiled April 30. i912. Serial No. 694.106.
Be it known that I. Howain) l. Gann.. a citizen ot the lnited States. residing at liancaster. in the county ot' Lancaste and State otl Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and usetul linproveinents in Dispensing." Apparatus. ot' which the tollowingl is a specitlcation. j
.lly invention relates` to improvements in dispensing apparatus. and retiers partic ularly to a .straw dispensing or delivery device tor use in delivering the straws such as used in drinking beverages.
One object ot my invention is the provision of a. highly attractive and ornamental apparatus `which will he perfectly clean and sanitary and which will positively protect the straws from dirt. handling;- or outside -cont animation.
Another object ot' my invention is the provision ot an ornament-.il and sanitary apparatus which will prevent handlingl ot' the straws and which can he operated with great ease to project only one straw atV a time tor the use ot the customer.
Another object ot' my invention is the provision or" a straw dispensing apparatus which will entirely cover and protect. the straws; which will permit the delivery ot' hut one straw at each operation, and which will he of such simple and inexpensive construction as to insure the highest degree ot etiiciency.
lllith these ends in view. my invention consists of a straw dispensing apparat-us enihodying novel features oi. construct-ion, conihination and arrangement ot parts, substantially as disclosed herein.
In order that.l the detailed construction and the operation of my apparatus may he understood and its points ot merit and advantages may he appreciated, l invite attention to the accomjninying` drawings7 in which Figure l represents a vertical central sectional view ot my .ipparatus, the container heilig t'illed with straws and the ejector lever being' shown in full lines in normal position and in dotted lines in the act ot delivering,` or dispensing a straw. Fig'. i2 represents a sectional view on line 2-2 ot Fie'. l. and Fie" 5 represents a perspective view ol the lower end ot the ejector lever to illustrate its novel and necessary construction.
ln the drawingw-the letter A designates the foot or base ot' my apparatus; whiclsI l iuay have the cushion supportsl l and which is weighted or tillcd at and provided willi the chainher or cavity l). and the hase is formed with the conical hottoni ll. t'orined at its apex with :in openingl l". Vroni this construction it will he noted that the hase t'oruis a suhstantial support and provides a conical hottoin and directly heneath the opening l in the hottoni rests the Vtree end (l ot' the tlat spring' ll. rigidly .secured at ,l to the hottoin ot the hase and fittingl in the annular flange or riin l( ot' the hase is the barrel or container L. toi-ming' the rcceptacle for the straws M. The container is' ot' suitahle size and has fitted upon its mouth or upper end the conical cap N. provided with :i .straw outlet which is normally closed and sealed hy the hinged tlap l), which while t'orniingr a perfect closure t'or the container otlers no resistance to the proper delivery of a single straw said flap assuming the position shown in lag/ 1 when lifted to permit the passage ot' the straw.
The container on its inner portion near the bottoni is formed with a pair ol parallel walls Q,wliich t'orni a protect ing pocket and `guide R 'for the inner lone' arni S ot' the ejector lever which is t'ornicd at its outer end with a linger portion h" and is pivoted at T outside the container and said lever is returned to normal position hy means ot the spring U. which is coiled upon the pivot of the lever and has its tree end ll hearing upon the lever adjacent the finger portion. In normal position the container is filled with straws and one of the straws always falls with its lower end in the openiitzgl or hole in the case bottoni and the said lower end of each straw inust tit upon the vertical pointed end Si. formed on the head S3 at the lower end ot' the long arni of the ejector lever, and to deliver a straw it is simply necessary to press down u pon the finger .piece which instantly ejects a single straw as clearly shown in Fig. 1 and while one straw is heing delivered another one is t'allinle` into position in order that every .straw in the container will he positively delivered one at each operation ot' the lever. lty will lie seen that the straws cannot hinder thc operation ot the lever and also that the tlat spring' always holds the lower -end ot the ejectoi.' lever in proper place beneath the straws.
The use for which my apparatus will he n'iost desirable is in connection with soda
