lVorcester, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Blanket-Holder for Automobiles and the Like, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a holding device for blankets, robes, coats, and the like.

it is capable of general use, ularly adapted for automobiles.

The principal objects of the invention are to provide a suitable device this character of such a construction that it will efllcientlv hold blankets, robes, coats, and the like to prevent their stolen and will operate without the use of keys or other locking devices which can be lost.

The invention involves the use of an ordinary bar for supporting the blanket, and means arranged in connection therewith for locking the blanket, or the like to the bar.

The invention is shown as applied to a vertical surface as for example, the surface of. the back of an automobile seat, and as comprising a pair of end brackets having an integral horizontal bar 11 extending from one to the other. This bar is designed for supporting the coats, blanketsp r the like which are to be secured in position. Each of these brackets is provided with an integral projection 12 below the end of the bar 11. These projections are provided with vertical perforations and above them are perforations of a similar character in the ends or" the bar. Through these perforations extend the legs 13 of a U-shaped clamping member 1. Each of these legs is provided with a series or" circumferential grooves 15 and with a longitudinal groove 16 extending throughout the space occupied by the circumferential grooves. Between the projections l9. and the bar 11 are arranged a pluralit of locking disks 18 each of which but particis provided with an interior socket 19 for receiving a shot or bearing ball 20. This ball projects from this socket into a longitudinal groove in the member'l3 and is capable also of passing into the grooves 15. The disks are polygonal and have characters on their several sides. The end of each of the legs 13 is provided with screw threads and a nut 21 is shown for engaging them and limiting the upward motion of the locking member 14.

The blankets, coats, or any other articles to behold are laid on the bar 11 and the disks at both ends are turned until a certain combination is efi'ected by which all the balls are brought into aliuement and into registration with the grooves V 16. This combination, of course, is indicated by the numbers, letters. or other characters on thescveral faces of the disks. It will be understood that-the nuts all are used onl to limit the upward motion of the member ll to prevent its being pulled out culirclv. With this arrangement it will be seen that articles particularly compressible articles likeco'ats, blankets, and the like can be held securely in position and located there by'a person who knows the combination, yet no keys or other devices are required, which might be lost or misplaced.
