This invention relates to a device for holding one or more skeins of thread so that single threads may be readily withdrawn from a group without disturbing the remainder of the threads in the same group.

The invention consists of a suitable support with a gripping device of peculiar construction, described more fully hereinafter, which allows of the withdrawal of oneof a group of threads and at the same time clamps and holds the remainder of the group in place.

The gripping-device holder is usually of metal and is made of channel or U shaped cross-section to give necessary stiffness. This holder isdesignated by 6 and is slotted at 7 transversely to serve as a guide for a tensiondevice stem. This stem 8 is provided with a rubber grip 9, preferably of tubular form, to allow of more flexibility in gripping and holding the group of threads 10. The stem, with rubber grip attached, is held in engagement with the group of threads by means of a spring 11, which acts against the inner side of the holder 6 and the stem 8, the stem being provided with a shoulder and also with an extension passing through the spring and holder and acting as a guide for the upper end ofrectly from said grip to the holder, the object being to provide a flexible grip and means for holding said grip in engagement with the group of threads.

The holderli, which carries one or more of the independent gripping devices, as described, is preferablyhinged at 13 to allow of its being raised to an inoperative or open position for removing or replacing the skeins of thread. What we claim is 1. In a skein-holding device, the combination with a platform-support, of a flexible gripping device carried by said support and coacting therewith to simultaneously grip a group of threads.

2. In a skein-holding device, the combination with a grooved platform-support, of a flexible gripping device carried by said support and coacting with the groove of said support to simultaneously grip a group of th reads.

3. In a skein-holding device, the combination of a grooved skein-support having a plurality of parallel grooves and a plurality of independent gripping devices coacting with said grooves to simultaneously grip groups of thread.

4. In a skein-holding device, the combination of a platform-support and a flexible gripping device coacting with said support to grip a group of threads and shiftable to an inoperative position in relation thereto.

5. In a skein-holding device, the combination of a skein-support and a rubber gripping device carried by said support and coacting therewith to simultaneously and yieldingly grip a group of threads.

6. In a skein-holding device, the combination of aplatform-su pport and a spring-pressed flexible gripping device carried by said support and coacting therewith to simultaneously grip a group of threads.

7. In a skein-holding device, the combina tion of a skein-support and a spring-pressed rubber gripping device carried by said support and coacting therewith to simultaneously grip a group of threads.

8. In a skein-holding device, the combina-' tion of a grooved skein-support and a rubber gripping device spring-pressed into engage ment therewith, carried by said support and coacting therewith to simultaneously grip a group of threads.

9. In a skein-holding device, the combination of a grooved skein-support and atubular rubber grip carried by said support and co= acting therewith to simultaneously grip a group of threads.

10. In a skein-holding device, the combination with a platform skein-support, of a holder pivoted at one side of said support, and a gripping device carried by said holder and coacting with said support to simultaneously grip a group of threads.

11. In a skein-holdin g device, the combination of an inverted-V-shaped skein-support and a holder carried by said support and coacting therewith to simultaneously grip a group of threads.

12. In a skein-holding device, the combina tion of a skein-support and a longitudinallychanneled and transverselyslotted holder guiding and carrying a gripping device and coacting with said support to simultaneously grip a group of threads.
