Be it known that I, WILLIAM T. LUGKEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Thoinson, in the county of McDuflie and State of Georgia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Trousers-Pressers of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to a trousers presser and has for its primary object to provide a trousers presser in which the trousers may be clamped so as to sustan the fabric smooth and for producing creases throughout the crease lines of the leg portions thereof.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a trousers presser whcrein the trousers can be readily and Conveniently laid sinoothly thereon so that the same may be neatly pressed and creased on the clamping of said trousers therein.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a trousers presser in which a pair of clamping sections are hinged together so that the same may be opened and closed and serve as leaves on which trousers may be placed so that the same can be readily smoothed whereby on the closing of the sections the said trousers will be pressed and simultaneously creased whereby on the renoval thereof they will be smoothly creased for further use. A

A still further object of the invention is the provision of a trousers presser wherein trousers may be pressed smoothly and creased without requiring the necessity of ironing the trousers in the ordinary manner for this purpose.

A still further object of the invention is the provision of a trousers presser which is simple in Construction, thoroughly reliable and eificient in its purpose and inexpensive in Inanufacture. v

With these and other objccts in View the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustratecl in the accompanying drawing, and pointed I out in the claims hereunto appended.

In the drawings: Figure l is a plan View of a trousers presser constructed in accordance with the invention, the sections thereof being shown open and a pair of trousers clamped thereon. Fig. 2 is a similar View showing the removable creaser board in position on one section and one leg of the trousers folded. Fig. 3 is an edge eleVatio-n of the trousers presser when closed and clamping the trousers therein for the purpose of pressing and creasing the same. Referring to the drawings by numerals, the trousers presser comprises complementary shaped board-like sections 10 and 11 respectively, the same being swingingly connected at adjacent edges by means of hinges 12, so that the sections may be swung to open or closed position with respect to each other. Each of said sections 10 and ll is provided with a cloth covering B and upon the same is adapted to be placed a pair of trousers 14: for the pressing and creasing thereof, the sections being open and disposed in the same plane with each other to allow the trousers 14 to be superimposed thereon in a manner as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The outer face of the section ll at its free end edge is formed with counter seats 15 for receiving the fixed ends 16 of trousers engaging spring fingers or clips 17 whch are bent so as to overlie a portion of the inner covered face of the said section 11 at the free end edge thcreof so that the waist band 18 of the said trousers 14: can be slipped between the fingers 17 and the inner cover-ed face of the section ll to hold the trousers fastened at the waist line thereof to the latter, whereby the lcg portions of the trousers can be snioo-thed prior to the closing of the sections of the trousers pressing device.

Removably superimposed upon the trousers l l and extending throughout the portion thereof resting upon the section 11 is a smoothing board comprising outer plies 19 -and an intermediate corrugated ply 20, the

same being united in any suitable manner, the said smooth-ing board being provided with a cloth covering 21 and is` of a shape corresponding to the shape of the section 11.

One leg portion 22 of the trousers is folded over on to the smoothing board into the position as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings and thereafter the said` leg portion 22 is smoothed with the hand so as to remove any wrinkles or creases therein, whereupon there is superimposed upon the said folded leg portion 22 of the trousers a removable creasing board 23, which is of identcal Construction and shape with respect to the smoothing board hereinbefore mentioned, and thereafter the other trousers le portion 22 is folded over on to the sai smoothing board 23 after which the said leg portion is smoothed with the hand so that on swinging the section 1 O upwardly and inwardly toward the section ll the trousers will be clamped between the said sections for the pressing and creasing thereof.

The inner faces of the spring fingers or clips 17 are knurled or otherwise roughened as at 24: so as to firmly grip the waist band of the trousers so as to avoid the slipping of the trousers when being smoothed or laid upon the sections 10 and ll prior to the closing thereof. The section ll has suitably fastened thereto substantially L shaped spring catches or keepers 25 each being pro- Videcl with a series of openings 26 for the engagement therein of the angular nibs 27 formed on the looking pins 28 fixed in the side and end edges of the section lO, it being understood of course that at least a pair of the catches or keepers 25 are disposed at each side and at the free edge of the section 11, so as to engage with the looking pins 28 for the fastening of thesections 10 and 11 closed and in clamping relation to each other. The section 10 may be fastened closer to or farther away from the section 11 by adjustably engaging the nibs 27 on the pins 28 in the openings 26 in the catches or keepers 25 so that the trousers clamped between the sections will be smoothly pressed and creasecl without necessitating the ironing thereof. The free ends of the catches or keepers 25 are slightly outwardly curled at 29 so as to permit the nibs 27 to pass the same for positive engagement in the opening 26 therein for the looking of the sections 10 and 11 in closed position for the clamping, pressing and creasing of the trousers after the latter have been placed therein in a manner as heretofore described.

From the foregong description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it is thought that the constrtiction and operation of the invention will be clearly understood, and therefore, a more extended explanation has been omitted.

It will be apparent that the device can be made of a size so as to fit within a dress suit case or other traveling bag Also when the trousers have been clamped between the sections of the presser there will be no friction or wear upon the trousers so as to wear smooth the fabric thereof which would necessarily cause the same to appear shiny.

Suitably fixed to one end edge of each of the smoothing boards is a pair of spaced elastic webs 30, the sane carrying spring snap clips 31 adapted for engagement with the bottom edges of the leg portions 22 of the trousers contiguous to the starting points of the folds or crease lines in the said leg portions, and in this manner the latter will be stretched taut upon the smoothing board and be held smooth so as to avoid the wrnkling thereof. F urthernore, the leg portions will be held so as to avoid any possibility of irregular creasing thereof when clamped within the trousers presser.

What is claimed is 1. A trousers presser conprising swingingly connected board-like sections, a pair of removable smoothing sections adapted to be interposed between the swinging sections, resilient clips carried by one of the boardlike sections at the free end edge thereof and adapted to extend over one face of the said section, each clip being formed with knurled surfaces adapted to frictionally engage trousers when resting upon the section, the said clips being connected to `the outer face of the said board-like section and adapted to lic fiush with such face, and tabs connected to the smoothing sections and having snap clips for engagenent with such trousers.

2. A trousers presser comprising Swingingly connected board-like sections, a pair of renovable smoothing sections adapted to be interposed between the swinging sections, resilient clips carried by one of the boardlike sections at the free end edge thereof and adapted to eXtend over one face of the said section, each clip being formed with knurled surfaces adapted to frictionally engage trousers when resting upon the section, the said clips being connected to the outer face of the said board-like section and adapted to lie fiush with such face, tabs connected to the smoothing sections and having snap clips fort engagenent with such trousers, keeper members fixed in one of the boardlike sections at intervals throughout three of its edges and resilient catches fixed to three of the edges of the other board-like section and engageable with the keeper members.
