Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLAUDE G. CORNWELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fabric Renovating and Cleaning Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention relates to improvements in fabric renovating and cleaning devices, and is designed for especial use by milliners and others, for cleaning velvets, ribbons, etc.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device or apparatus for manual use by means of which soiled velvets, for instance, may be thoroughly cleaned, renovated and renewed, at slight expense of time and labor.
The invention consists essentially in the combination and arrangement of a steamer or steam receptacle and reservoir with an operating table or tray adapted to receive the steam from the reservoir so that the steam may perform its proper function in the operation of cleaning the fabric.
WVhile I shall hereinafter refer to the device as used by milliners or others for cleaning velvet or other ribbons, I desire to be understood as contemplating the use of the invention in many different circumstances and conditions.
In the accompanying drawings I have tray 1 and a steam tank or boiler 6. These members may be constructed of suitable material as tin, sheet metal, etc., and the tray is formed with end strengthening and guide walls 2,, 2 from which project inwardly the side tapering walls 3, 3. Between the inner ends of the side walls 3 a pair of downwardly extending grooved side flanges are provided on the tray, and between these flanges and centrally located on the tray, extends a slot 5. By means of the grooved flanges the tray is permitted to slide over the rim 7 of the boiler and hold the parts in secured position, thus providing a cover for the boiler. At its base the boiler is provided with the usual flanges '8 forming braces or supports.
In use the tank or receptacle 6 with the water contained therein may be placed upon a heater, or steam may be fed into the tank from a source of supply. In either event the steam will issue through the slot 5. Now when it is desired to clean and renovate a velvet ribbon, for instance, the ribbon is laid on the tray and end walls 2, and slowly passed over the slot 5 and guided by the end walls from one end of the ribbon to the other. As the ribbon is passed over the slot, the ribbon may be brushed by a hand brush. Between the action of the steam and the hand brush the ribbon is thoroughly cleaned and renovated.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim is The combination with a steam reservoir having a rim, of a slotted tray entirely closing the open top of said reservoir, end strengthening and guide walls on top of the tray, and side flanges on the underside of the tray for engaging said rim when the tray is in position over said reservoir.
