Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern: 3

Be it known that I, CHRISTOPHER F; BAOKMYER, a' citizen of theUnited States, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements in Pens, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. j The object of my invention is to provide 7 a writing or drawing pen which will make a line of uniform width regardless of the direction in which the pen is drawn.

In carrying out the aim of my invention which is to provide a pen adapted to be used in writing, lettering, and in ruling lines, I

- provide a pen so constructed, that the same will make a broad line of uniform width, regardless of the direction in which the pen is moved. In many arts, a pen is required that will make a broad black line of equal and uniform width such pens being used by artists and others in lettering, and also in ruling work. p

In the drawings, the numeral a identifies a suitable staff forming the holder, made of wood, rubber, or any other suitable material, which is provided with the circular shoul ders 1 and 2, as clearly disclosed in Fig. 3. This staff or holder is of any suitable length, thickness, and diameter. Secured .to the reduced end, 2 of the staff is. the tubular keeper 3, provided with a cap having a slot 4, within which the pen tang is held. The pen comprises two resilient arms, marked 7 and 9, from the upper one of which extends,

As shown in Fig. 2, the arm 7 extends obliquely to the arm While the nibs 8 and 10 in most cases will be solid, they may be in the form of semicup's, as shown in the modification disclosed in 6, so that the nibs form an ink reservoir.

Secured to the staff a is a ferrule 13, which is securely held upon the staff portion 1', and snugly held within this ferrule 13, and upon the end portion 2' of the stafi is the slotted tubular keeper 3 arranged to have its end project slightly beyond the end of the ferrule was shown in Fig. 2. This tubular having one keeper is in the form of a ca end closed, and the closed end servesas a stop u on which the members 6 rest as and between the nibs, which are made of 100 some suitable non-corrosive material.

It is of course understood that the pensv may be made in different sizes. The peni is filled as is any ordinary bow-pen in the ink between the arms 9 and 7.

A pen of the character described, comprising the combination of two semi cylim drical nibs each terminating in a semicircular face, held at an angle to the axis of the pen.

2. A pen of the character described com prising the combination of two yieldingly held semi-circular nibs, each terminating in a semi-cylindrical face, held at an acute angle to the axis of the holder. 3. A pen comprising the combination with a keeper, of two arms extending therefrom, each ending in a semi-circular face, the combined faces forming a disk.

4. The combination with a pen holder, of a keeper, two yieldingly held arms, extending from said keeper, each arm terminating memo? in said ferrule, and a writing pen comprismg a tang held Within said slotted tubular keeper including two arms held in yielding relation, said arms terminating in a semicircular nib, the ends or faces of'said nibs extending in a common plane at an angle to the axis of the pen.
