ERASER ATTACHMENT FOR FOUNTAIN-PIEINS.

. To all whom it may concern:

Be it lmown that I, DANIEL'R. MARKLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lancaster, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Eraser Attachments for Fountain-Pens, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates tocertain new and useful improvements in eraser attachment for fountain-pens and has for its primary object the provision of an attachment of this character which may. be readily secured in position upon the barrel of the fountain pen and adjusted to present a new surface as the old surface is worn away.

Another object of the invention resides in an eraser attachment of this character in which the erasing material may be properly protected and the 'device' will be constructed in such manner that it may be readily applied to fountain pens of conventional form without altering the construction of the latter.

For a further object, the invention contemplates'the provision of an eraser attachment of this character including an eraser portion formed of spun glass bristles positioned in a cup which may be readily adjusted within a cup secured over the end of a fountain pen barrel.

A still further object of the invention resides in the provision of a device of the above stated character which will be composed of a minimum number of parts, simple and inexpensive in construction and highly efficient in'use.

With these general objects in view and invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully de scribed,- illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the appended claims. r

In the drawings forming a part of this application and in which like-designating characters refer .to corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure-1 is an elevation of the complete invention applied to a conventional form of fountain pen.

Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the 7 same as shown in Fig. 1, withthe parts considerably enlarged'and a portion of the pen broken away.

Referring more in detail to the drawings, 1 designates a fountain pen barrel upon which may be threaded or secured in any other suitable manner, the inner section 2 of the'cap, said inner section 2 having a reduced rear end extension 3 upon which is threaded tions 2 and 5 of the cap and is provided with a rounded or bulged central portion 8 engaged with the rounded rear end of the fountain pen barrel 1. when the cap is in position upon the same, as shown in the drawings.

The spun glass bristles 9 are arranged in A parallel relation with'one end secured in the cup 7 as shown .in Fig. 2, while the opposite ends of said bristles 9 are brought together and extended through the central opening 10 in the outer end of the outer cap section 5. The inner walls of the outer cap section 5 converge, as shownat 11,'toward the central opening 10 to gradually bring together the outer ends of the bristles 9 so that the free extremities thereof may project through the opening 10 while held securely and in compact form, thereby presenting an eraser which will be effective and highly efficient in use.

It will be understood that the form of the cup 7 will prevent rocking of the same within the sections 2 and 5 and as the cap is threaded forwardly upon the fountain pen barrel 11, engagement of the cup 7 with the end of the barrel 1 will result in forcing the bristles 9 through the opening 10. This will make it possible to automatlcally feed the bristles through the opening 10 as the ends of the same are worn away.

It will be evident that an auxiliary cap, not shown,.may be placed over the outer end of the cap section 5 to cover the. exposed ends of the bristles 9, if desired.

While the form of the invention shown i a tubular member detachably connected and described is what is believed to be the preferred embodiment thereof, it is nevertheless to be'understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

I claim 1 i 1. The combination with a pen holder, of

therewith and provided with an opening at its outer end thereof, erasing bristles arranged in the bore of the tubular member and projecting through the opening, the pen holder engaging the erasing bristles and retainin the same in position.

2. he combination with a pen holder, of a tubular member longitudinally adjustable on the pen and provided with an opening at its outer end thereof, a plurality of erasing bristles arranged in the. tubular member and projecting through the opening, the upper extremity of the pen bearing against the erasing bristles.

3. The combination with a body, of a sleeve longitudinally adjustable thereon and having an opening at its outer end thereof, of a cap longitudinally adjustable in the tubular member, an eraserrcarried thereby and extending through the opening, the body bearing against the cap and retaining the same in adjusted positions.

4. The combination with a pen, of a sleeve threaded thereon and provided with-an opening in its outer end thereof, a plurality of lugs arranged upon the interior of the tubular member, a cap longitudinally adjustable in the tubular member and its movement in one direction being limited by the lugs, and

an eraser carried by the cap and pro ecting through the opening, the pen holder bearing against the cap to retain the same in such adjusted positions.
