'ment and blotter, and aims primarily to provide an attachment for the arms of bookkeepers, auditors, clerks and other enmen, so as to protect the ledger, journa or abstract sheet or other surface being written upon.

It frequently occurs that boolckeepers, clerks, and the likein making entries on ledgers, journals, abstract sheets and the like iii soil the shects,.as they are naturally co1npelled to lay their arms'upon the sheets, and the arm in being damp due to perspiration, causes the soiling of the sheet in numerous instances. "This objection and other objections have been overcome by the provision of a novel attachment for the arm, which will protect the arm against rubbing or contacting on the sheet, which will render it convenient for the wearer to write or otherwise use his pen, and which will also serve as a blotter. 1 The present device not only aims to pro- Ylfile an attachment for the arm, but also contemplates the provision of a member a ta he novel attachment, of a blotter.

Referring specifically to the drawings, the numeral 7 designates a rectaiwular flexis ble plate, which is constructcd 0? any suitable sheet metal having the proper qualities and gage, and the bottom of which is adaptcd to have securcd thereto a suitable blott8! 8- I A pair of U-shaped resilient arrna'ccciving clips 9 are secured on the plate 7 adjacent its ends, each of the said clips having its arms separate and constructed of stri s of suitable sheet metal as designated by the numeral 9. The inner ends of the arms 9 are overlapped at the intermediate portion of the clip, and the said arms are provided with slides 9 bent therefrom at their inner extremities and engaging the other arms, so that the arms are ad ustably connected. The outermost overlapping portion or the overlapping portion ad accnt the plate 7 is provided with an elongated slot 9 through which a rivet or other securin member 10 engages, said securing membcr licing passed through the plate 7. It will thus be;socn that the arms of each cli may be adjusted laterally to and from eacli other so that the clips may accommodate the forearms of various persons in a convenient and ellicient manner. The rivets 10 in engaging one of the arms of each of the clipsthrough the slots provided, also permit the clips to be adjusted laterally so asto lie centrally on the plate. The said clips 9 are lined with leather strips 11, which are provided with loops 12 engaging the arms of the clips. The linings 11 need not be constructed of leather, but may be constructed of any other suitable material, as will be apparent. The

The ends of the plate 7 are bent back up wardly to provide inwardly inclined portions 13 and depending portions l ft, the incontacts with. the inclined portion 18, so that the locking member 15 may be swung upwardly, as shown in Fig. 5, and so that when the locking member -15 is swung downwardly or against the plate 7, the arm 17 will be locked between the portions 13 and ll to press the edge 20 against the plate 7.

In use, the blotter 8, which is of any preferred type, is placed on the bottom of the plate 7 and the locking members 15 are swung upwardly, so that the endsof the blotter may be passed over the said locking members 15 and engaged below the downturued edges 20 of the flanges 19. The blot:

7, and then by swinging the lockingmembers 15 downwardly, the same are locked against the plate 7 so as to clamp the ends of the blotter against the pland thereby retain the blotter in position. It will there- 'tore follow, that the locking members'are entirely covered except at their ends, the ends of the blotter passing thereover so as to provide suitable bearing surfaces for the arm, which will also absorb the perspiration. The plate 7 being arched or its intermediate portion being raised provides a. suitable yielding or resilient support for the arm. in order that the plate 7 may give when a downward pressure is applied thereto by the arm. It will .thus appear that the presapplicable to the fore-arm of the wearer for protecting the arm against contact with the surface being written upon, and whenever desired, the blotter maybe lift-ed over -matter written on the surface to blot same as is customary.

The blotter 8. may berevcrsed end for end or may be turned over to expose the other side,-so that the life of the blotter may be increased. The blotter may be readily detached, as will be understood, by swinging the locking members miwardly, and the blotter may then be reversed or a new blotter may be applied to the plate.
