Application flied September 9, 1912. Serial 80. 719,898.
To all whom it ma concern.-
Be it known t at I, Srnrnmv L. 0mm, a citizen of the United States residing at New Bedford, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in HandThreading Shuttles of'which the following is a specification. t
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in hand threading shuttles, and the ob'ect of the same is to provide a shuttle 0 this type which has simple and improved means for enabling tliefi-gBhllttln to be easily and quickly thredtidd;
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a top plan view of a shuttle constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary side elevation. Fig. 3 is a fra mentary side elevation of the opposite si e of the shuttle. Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a section onthe line 5-5 of Fig. 1. Fig. 6 is a side member, and Fi 7 is a top plan view ereof.
he shuttle body. 1 has the usual diagonal slot 2 which extends down one side of the shuttle and horizontally thereof terminating in a transverse delive eye passage 3. The threading member is ormed of wire and has a hook-shaped end 4 which on ages or projects in a groove provided there or in.
' the shuttle side to prevent twisting movement of the threading member. The threading member is formed with a U- shaped bend 5 which is located opposite to and below a pad 6 that is secured in the shuttle throat, the up or face of the pad being disposed above t e delivery eye passage 3 as depicted in Fig. 5 of the drawings. From the bend 5 a diagonal arm 7 extends outwardly through a cutout portion 8 that forms an enlargement of the horizontal portion of the diagonal slot 2, the arm 7 having its free and turned inwardly at 9 and formed with a delivery or thread eye member to hold some, rigid and agai movement.
In threading the shuttle, the thread is placed in slot 2 and drawn down throu h the same and rearwardly thereof along t e horizontal portion of said slot so as to engage under the V-shaped end of the threadmg member, whereupon the thread will enter eye 10 and enfiage the bend 5, the thread passing downwar 1y from pad 6 to and over the bend 5.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Let- .ters Patent;-- 4 f 1. In a hand threading shuttle having a transverse passage which communicates with the throat and the diagonal slot thereof, a pad in the throat and a threading member in said pm formed'of a stran of wire havin one en thereof hookshapd and embedd in one side of the shuttle, said member havin a bend that contacts with one wall of sax passage and a second U-shaped bend which alines with and is 10- passage 8 to brace the thread engaging cated below said pad, saidsusshaped bend having a diagonal arm which extends in an enlarged portion rovided therefor inithe horizontal part 0 the diagonal slot, said arm being turned inwardly and terminating in an eye which is located in said passage at the free end thereof.
2. In a hand threading shuttle having a passage which communicates with thethroat and threading slot thereof, a threading member in said passage formed of a strand p of wire having one end thereof embedded in one side of the shuttle, said member having a bend that contacts with one wall of sai said U-shaped bend having a diagonal arm which extends in an enlar ed portion of the.
diagonal slot, said arm eing turned inpassage and a second U-shaped bend,
wardly and terminating in an'eye which is located in said passage. I r
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. v STEPHEN L. CHILD.
