Letters Patent No. 105,433, dated July 19, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN NEEDLE FOR SEWING-MACEINE.-,
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent: and making paxt of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, CHARLES R. S. CURTIS, of Quincy, in the county of Adams andState of Illinois, have inrented a new and valuable Improvement in Sewing-machine Needles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference a being had to the annexed drawings makinga part of this specification, and to-theletters and. figures of reference marked thereon.
The object of my invention is to construct a sewing-machine needle that can be more easily threaded than any similar device heretoforeknown or used.
To this end I construct a needle in the form shown on the drawings, and especially set forth by Figure 1.
The letter A on said figure is a representation of a large eye, formed by anenLrgemcnt of the needle Letter B is a small eye near the point of the needle, in which the thread is held-when the needle is at work. i v
Letter is a'slit extending from the large eye A,
to the small eye B, and entering the eyeB on one side thereof. 7
There is agroovc on one side of my needle, also extending from eye A to eye B.
My device is operated as follows: When I desire to thread the needle, I pass the end .of the thread through the large eye 'A., I thel'i take hold of the thread on each side of the needle "and force it down-the slit C-until it reaches and rests in the eye B.
