IRA LEMUEL DELANO, 0F ROCKLIN, CALIFORNIA.
BUSH-HAMMER FOR THE BUSHING AND CUTTING OF GRANITE.
Specification of Letters Patent. patenflgd E 70. 2.5, 1913,
Application filed March 4, 1912. Serial No. 681,672.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IRA LEMUEL DELANO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rocklin, in the county of Placer and State of California, have invented a new and useful Bush-Hammer for the Bushing and Cutting of Granite, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in bush-hammers in which cutting blades called cuts are bolted or otherwise fastened into apoll, for bushing or cutting granite; and the objects of my invention are, first, to fasten any number of cuts into the poll, in such a manner that they may be securely held, without working loose or breaking; second, to secure the cuts in the poll with a bolt or bolts and side plates, in connection with gibs formed on the poll, in such a way as to obviate the necessity of boring holes through the cuts, wedging, dovetailing, or cutting them away in any manner. 7
' Figure l, is a front view, Fig. 2, a side view, Fig. 3, a sectional View, Fig. 4, an end view, and Fig. 5, shows the side plates in perspective, of the surfacer bush-hammer. Fig. 1*, is a front view, Fig. 2 a side view, Fig. 3*, a sectional view, Fig. 4,, an end view, and Fig. 5 shows the side plates in perspective, of the hand bush-hammer.
The poll, E, is made with gibs, D, on the sides and ends, the side plates, C, fit into the gibs formed on the sides of the poll, the bolt, B, passes through the side plates and poll, but not through the cuts, A, which are fitted into the aws formed by the side plates and the end gibs, onthe poll, the bolt is then tightened up, holding the cuts securely in place.
I am aware that prior to my invention, bush-hammers'have been made, with the cuts held in a poll by bolts;
I therefore do not claim such a combination broadly, but
I claim;
The combination in a bush-hammer, of a poll, having gibs formed on its sides and ends, with a bolt hole or holes through the poll and side plates, but not through the cuts; the side plates and cuts fitting into specially constructed gibs on the poll, and with the bolts, holding the cuts firmly in place; all substantially as shown and described.
IRA LEMUEL DELAN'O.
