.The Schedule referred tb in these Letters Patent and making part of the name Beit known that I, GUSTAVUS B. BROAD, of Waterville, in the countyI of Kennebec and State of Maine, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Shawl- "Straps; and I do hereby declare that the following is a`fullelear, and exaetdesciption thereof, which will lenable others skilled `in the art to make and use the-same, reference Vbeingfhad to .the accompanying drawing forming part of this specication.

,This invention relates to improvements-1n the straps used for securing v,shawls and other like articles in` small bundles, and carrying them by the hand; andv consists in a Ycombination with the strap to which the handle and the binding straps are connected, of a wire frame for stil'ening and strengthening it, the .said frame being stitched between the upper and lower layers of the said strap, whiehis uiadeuef4 two parts or layers.

This frame is composed of one pieceof round orat wire, bentaroundand joined at theends, and one or i more intermediate ,wircsattached tothe ends, the

wholeforn'iing agure corresponding to the outline of the strap A, but sulciently smaller toit snugly into the same when stitched together attheedges, except at o ner end, which, being left open for inserting the said frame, is then stitched up; then the two. parts of the strap are stitched between the intermediate wires `on the lines a, which so binds them on the stiit'ening-vv frame as to make the whole very strong. v

'For attaching the binding-straps B to this strap, I useuwire loops, E, insertedubetween the two layers through slots inv the lower one,`forming a loop, F,'of the latter, as 'shown in fig. 2." v

Then I arrange the clips G, by which the handles areLatt-ached, so that the rivets H, used to secure them, will pass'close'by the sides of these loops and bind the leather firmly Aagainst them whenvriveted down.
