H. MEROVIGH.
, MIRROR SUPPORT.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 20, 1912.
' Patented Feb. 25, 1913.
UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFIQE.
HENRY MEROVICH, OF TRENTON, NEW JERSEY.
LIIRROR-SUPPOR-T.
Application filed April 20, 1912.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, :HENRY Mnnoviiorr, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at Trenton, in the county of Mercer and State of New Jersey, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in h'lirror-Supports, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in mirror supports, the object of the invention being to provide a quickly detachable hinge mounting for the mirror of bureaus, dressing tables, and the like pieces of furniture, which requires no removal of screws and which cannot work loose or become accident-ally disconnected.
A further object is to provide an improved device of this character which is of extremely simple construction, comparatively cheap to manufacture, and strong and durable in use.
l/Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1, is a fragmentary view-in rear elevation illustrating my improvements. Fig. 2, is a view in elevation of one of the. improved hinge connections. Fig. 3, is a view in section on the line 33 of Fig. Fig. 4, is a view in section on the line 4-ft of Fig. 2, and Figs. 5, 6, and 7, are perspective views of the three main parts of my improved device.
1, represents a mirror, and 2, 2, the upright supports of a piece of furniture 3, to which the mirror is secured by my improved hinge mounts. l/Vhen I use the term mirror, it is to be understood that this term includes the wooden frame as well as the glass.
The hinge mounts at the sides are alike, except that they are rights and lefts, and the description hereinafter of one will apply alike to both. Each hinge mount consists of a bracket 3, and a plate 4 adapted to be secured to the mirror and support respectively and connected by a bolt member 5. Bracket 3, in its base, is provided with screw receiving openings 6 to secure the bracket to the mirror at the end or side thereof. Bracket 3 is made with an in- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 25,1913.
Serial No. 692,033.
The plate 4 is provided with screw-receiving openings 1'? to secure the same to the support 2,and this plateis provided on its outer face with an angular sleeve 18 hav ing an upwardly projecting ledge 19 at its upper outer end.
The bolt member 5 above referred to has a restricted lower end 20 adapted to enter the angular sleeve 18, and said bolt member is made with shoulders 21 to rest on top of the angular sleeve back of ledge 19. These parts have a snug fit, so that the members are rigidly held when together. The lower end of the bolt 20 is provided with a spring 22, and a beveled block 23 is secured to this spring, and is adapted to engage under the lower edge of the angle sleeve 18 to prevent any accidental release of the bolt member.
By reference to Fig. 3, it will be seen that when the parts are in normal position, the shoulder block 23 will engage the lower edge of sleeve 18, and the parts will be securely held together, yet permit the mirror to move and remain in any position to which it is moved by reason of the frictional engagement' of the parts.
When it is desired to remove the mirror, it is simply necessary to force the shoulder block 23 inwardly until it disengages the lower edge of the angular sleeve 18 when the bolt 20 can be drawn out of the sleeve 18, and the mirror thus quickly detached from the piece of furniture.
To replace the mirror it is simply necessary to position the bolts in the angle sleeves 18 and force them downwardly, when the spring 22 will automatically project the an-- gle blocks to securely lock the parts together, when the bolt member is in its lowest position.
Various slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described without departing fro-m my invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent is:
1. A device of the character described, comprising a bracket adapted to be secured to one article, a plate adapted to be secured to another article and having a sleeve thereon, a bolt member hinged to the bracket and adapted to enter the sleeve, and a spring held block on the bolt member engaging under the lower edge of the sleeve and normally holding the bolt member on the plate, substantially as described.
2. A. device of the character described, comprising a bracket adapted to be secured to one article, a plate adapted to be secured to another article, a bolt member, ears on the bracket and the bolt member, said ears ha ving bearings therein. a bearing sleeve in said bearings, a bolt projected through the bearing sleeves, a nut on the bolt, and means on the plate engaged by the bolt member secur ing the parts together, substantially as described.
A device of the character described, comprising a bracket adapted to be secured to one article, a plate adapted to be secured to another article, a bolt member, ears on the bracket and the bolt member, said ears having bearings therein, a bearing sleeve in said bearings, a bolt projected through the bearing sleeves, a nut on the bolt, and an angular sleeve on the plate adapted to receive said bolt member, substantially as described. is
i. A device of the character described, comprising a bracket adapted to be secured to one article, a plate adapted to be secured to another article, a bolt member, ears on the bracket and the bolt member, said ears having bearings therein, a bearing sleeve in said bearings, a bolt projected through the bearing sleeves, a nut on the bolt, an angular sleeve on the plate adapted to receive said bolt member, and means locking the belt member in the angular sleeve, substantiall as described.
5. A device of the character described, comprising a bracket adapted to be secured to one article, a plate adapted to be secured to another article, a bolt member, ears on the bracket and the bolt member, said ears having bearings therein, a bearing sleeve in said bearings, a bolt projected through the hearing sleeves, a nut on the bolt, an angular sleeve on the plate adapted to receive said bolt member, said angular sleeve having an upwardly projecting ledge at its outer upper end behind which the bolt member is: prsiticned, and a spring held block securedt 70 to the bolt member and normally engaging under the lower end of said sleeve, substan tially as described.
in testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
