SEIDEL, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Game Apparatus, of which the following is a specification, reference'being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to a game apparatus, more particularly to ten pins used for bowling, and the advantage thereof is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a hollow sectional pin body having clamped between the sections thereof 'a yieldable impacting member adapted to be impacted by the bowling ball, the said yieldable impacting member preventing the pin from splitting or becoming injured to that extent whereby the surface of the pin would interfere with a proper and predetermined ball impact which is so essential especially in a professional game.

It is a well known fact that the periphery of the ordinary wooden ten pin is often in dented, split or otherwise injured by the contact of a ball, such injury impairing the use of the ball, then furthermore the scareity of wood from which the ten pins are ordinarily made has materially increased the cost of the ten pins and in some comma nities the demand for high class ten pins cannot be met.

To overcome the indenting, splitting or otherwise injuring the ten pins by the contact of the ball, a yieldable ball impacting member is employed and set up in a manner as hereinafter set forth with respect to the sections of the pin body, and to reduce the cost of ten pins, the sections of the body of the pin are hollow and preferably constructed of metal. Then furthermore, the sections of the pin are so set up that when desired, the yieldable ball impacting member can be conveniently removed and a new one substituted without discarding the sections of the pin body.

With the foregoing and other objectsin view, the invention resides in a novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter .more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.

In the drawings:Figure 1 is a front elevation of a ten pin in accordance with this invention, Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same, Fig. 3 is a front elevation, broken away, of a modified form, and Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view, broken away, of a modified form.

Referring to Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, the ten pin includes a hollow top section 1, a hollow base section 2 and an intermediate section 3 which is termed a yieldable ball impacting member. The sections 1 and 2 are formed preferably of metal, but any suitable material of sufficient rigidity and strength can be employed. The member 3 can be formed of fiber, rubber, leather or other suitable yieldable material, and as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 is of one iece and when set up has its outer face ush with the outer face of the sections 1 and 2. The member 3 is in the form of a band. The section 1 at its lower end is provided with an inwardly extending annular flange 4 which merges into a depending hollow cylinder, the coupling plug 5 having its pe-. riphery threaded as at 6. The section 2 at its to is formed with an inwardly extending annu ar flange 7 of greater thickness than the flange 4 and which has its edge threaded as at'8 for engagement with the threads 6 of the lug 5. The intermediate section or. yieldab e band 3 surrounds and snugly engages with the plug 5 and said section or band 3 is clamped between the sections 1 and 2 when the threads of the plugs 5 are in engagement with the threads 8 of the flange 7.

Referring to Fig. 3, the constructlon disclosed thereby is the same as that referred to in connection with Figs. 1 and 2, with this exception that the intermediate section or yieldable ball impacting member is formed from a plurality of washers preferably ,formed of leather and which are indicated by the reference character 9.

Referring to Fig. 4 of the drawings, the hollow top section is indicated by the reference character 10 and has its lower end formed with an inwardly extending flange 11 having the edge thereof threaded as at 12. The hollow base section is designated 13 and is formed with an inwardly extending annular flange 14 having its edge threaded as at 17 The intern'iediate section or yieldable ball impacting member is indicated 16, and is shown as formed of rubber and clamped between the sections 10 and 13 through the medium of a peripherally threaded coupling plug 17. The plug 17 is provided with right and left threads so that the sections 10 and 18 can be screwed toward each other to securely clamp the member 16 between said sections.

As to the construction shown in Figs. 1 an 2, the section 2 can be screwed toward the section 1, or the latter toward the section 2, so as to securely clamp the member 3 in position, or to tighten the sections of the pin together when desired.

The top and base sections of the pin are preferably formed of aluminum although it is obvious that any suitable material can be employed. The section or band 3 is preferably formed of a yieldable fiber, but it is also obvious that it can be formed of any suitable material. The flanges of the top and base sections provide bearing surfaces for the upper and lower faces of the yieldable intermediate section or member, and as before stated the body of the member is of such width as to snugly embrace-the coupling plug.

Should an intermediate section or member be injured it can be easily removed and a new one substituted without discarding the top and base sections of the pin. The pin possesses the further advantage of preventing the bowling ball from injury, thereby maintaining the bowling qualifications of a perfectly formed bowling ball.

What I claim is 1. As a new article of manufacture, a ten pin including a hollow top section provided at its lower end with an inwardly extending flange, a hollow base section provided at its upper end -with an inwardly extending flange, a yieldable intermediate section interposed between said top and base sections, a coupling plug connected with said flanges tor adj ustably securing said top and bot-tom sections together and for further clamping the intermediate section in position.

As a new article of manufacture, a ten pin including a hollow top section provided at its lower end with an inwardly extending flange, a heilow base section provided at its upper end with an inwardly extending "flange, a yieldable intermediate section interposed between said top and base sections,-

a coupling plug connected with said flanges :t'or adjustably securing said top and bottom sections together and for further clamping the intermediate section in position, said intermediate section abutt ng against said flanges and snugly engaging said coupling plug.

3. As a new article of manufacture, a ten pin comprising a hollow top Section, having its lower end nrovided with an inwardly extending annular flange terminating in a depending hollow coupling plug formed with peripheral threads, a hollow base section having its top formed with an inwardly extending annular flange having the edge thereof threaded for engagement with the threads of said coupling plug, and a yieldable intermediate section interposed between said top and base sections bearing against said flanges, snugly engagin said coupling plug and ren'iovably clamped in position by the coupling plug.

4. As a new article of manufacture, a ten pin including a hollow top section provided at its lower end with an inwardly extending flange, a hollow base section provided at its upper end with an inwardlv extending flange, a yieloable intermediate section interposed between said top and base sections, a hollow plug connected with said flanges for au'iustably securing said to and bottom sections together and for furt er clamping the intermediate section in position.

As a new article of manufacture, a ten pin including a hollow top section provided at its lower end with an inwardly extending flange, a hollow base section provided at its upper end with an inwardly extending flange, a yieldable intermediate section interposed between said to and base sections, a hollow plug connecte with said flanges for adjustably securing said to and bottom sections together and for furt ier clamping the intermediate section in position, said intermediate section abutting against said flanges and snugly engaging said hollow plug.
