ri`his invention relates to valves for internal combustion engines and has for its object a valve comprising slotted sleeves'one of Which is ldivided into compartments. These sleeves reciprocate across the head ot' the cylinders and control both the inlet and the exhaust ports.

T he sleeves, of which H is the outer sleeve and Gr the inner sleeve, are the valves which control the exhaust and the inlet ports of the cylinders. The inner sleeve G is divided off into compartments by the partit-ions l, the middle compartment is the inlet compartment, While the end compartments are the exhaust compartments. lf more than two cylinders are employed an exhaust compartment may do duty for two cylinders in the samevvay as the middle inlet compartment operates. The exhaust compartment adjacent the cylinder B is put in communication with that cylinder, when the port e2 or" the sleeve H and the port' e3 of the sleeve G, each register with the port E into the cylinder. The ports m and m1 of a particular compartment are in the form of elongated slots, so that a complete and unobstructed Apassage-ivav is afforded at all times from the manifold port m2 into the cylinder.
