SMALL-ARM BULLET.
Specification of Letters Patent..` Patented Feb. 18, 1913.
'Application filed October 26, 1910. Serial No. 589,235.
To (1M/whom t concern. .Be 1t I mown thatL' PAULMAIUSE privy commercial councllor, afsuiojecyof t 'e King yof Wurttemberg, residing 2li @heridorf-onthe-Neckar, in tlie.r Kingd'on of Wurttemberg, Germany, have invented cert-ain new and usefull Improvements. in 'Small-Arm Bullets, of which .the following-is a4 full,
' clear, and exact description.
Asis knowni the infantry ammunition with pointed bullet lheretofore employed present-s tivo defects, one,of them residing s 1n the fact that the attachment of the bullet to 'the cartridge case is somewhat insecure owing to. the fact that the bullet is not inserted far enough, While Vthe second defect` is that owing tti-.defective dimensioning -of the length of point or in the distribution of the weight in the core, the center of gravity of the bullet is'located too far rearward, whereby ff keylio'lers are frequently caused. Now the present .construction has for its object to remove 'these defects and to prd- Vide a bullet v vhich, While retaining the eX-. -ternal dimensions of thecartridges hereto- Y.fore employed including their length and without appreciably altering theweightof the, bullet,'perrnit`s of providing the necessary insertion lengthfor obtaining secure attachment inthe cartridge case and also'of shifting the oente'r of gravity to the front posit-ion in the trajectory. v
ln the accompanying vdrawing lwhich illustrates the invention: Figure l shows an part-of the bullet thereby to insurecertain ordinary bullet M. 98. 'Figsy 2 and 3 show.
two bullets embodying the inventron in longitudinal section inserted in their 'cartridge case. Fig. 4 shoivs a modified form of my invention. 4
is lshown by this drawing the improved bullet is ext-ended rearward beyond the front leadilled core port-ion presenting approxi'- mately the length Aofthe bullet heretofore usual -in such a manner that behind the' end of the effective lead. core cl aspecial 'inser-V tion portion'is formed, Whichfis Slightly 'conical at its rearend, .it-s core k2 consisting of light metal. The two cores k1 vlet-are in'- closed by Ia single n'uetallio casing mffthe contact faces of the lead and the light metal- Y cores can eitherbe fiat' .(Fig.' arched, o'r
` bullet of about 10 to- 11 grams the center of gravity is located inside the guide portion or in front thereof.
Fig. 4shows a form of bullet in which the rear light metal core k2 is turned with a peripheral groove 7c3 by means of which when the bulletenters'the'barreh its passage into the rifling is facilitated that is to say the hardness or harshness-of the guidance of the bullet which has heretofore existed is reduced. The -diminution of the frictional area on tiredl bullets shows that this effect is attained. -Already'ivith this novel forni of bullet the bullet velocity has been increased by about 20 meters for a given charge.
That- I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. An enveloped bullet for small arm am- 4 Inunition consisting of a casing, a solid coreof heavy material in the front portion of said casing and a solid core of light material in the rear'portion of said casing, said core of light material having a peripheral groove adapted to facilitate the penetration of the bulet into the rifiing.
2. 'An enveloped bullet. for small :i1-n1 ammunition consisting of a casing, a solid core of heavy material in the front portion of said casing and a solid .core of light material in the rear portion of said casing,'said core of light material havingan arched con tact face'with respect of the core of heavy material and'a peripheral groove adapted Ito facilitate the penetra-tion of the bullet into the riding.
- In Witness; whereof, I have hereunto Vsignedmynaine in the presence of tWp subscribing Witnesses.
