ITED STAT I4 1 PATENT OFFICE.
ELDRIDGE Q. MAXCY, OF BELDEN, MISSISSIPPI.
NECK-YOKE FASTENER.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, ELnnmGn Q. MAXGY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Belden, in the county of Lee, State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neck-Yoke Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in neck yokeI fasteners, and has for its object to provide a device of this character which may be easily and quickly applied to t-he outer end of the usual vehicle tongue.
A further object of the invention is to so construct a device of this character that the neck yoke may be moved backwardly and forwardly upon the tongue so as to adjust the same to different size teams.
Vith these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formations, combinations and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device showing a neck yoke secured thereby. Fig. 2 is a similar view, the device being shown in its open posit-ion. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 3 3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4l; is a longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 5 is a top plan view. Fig. 6 is a detail p-erspective view of the plate. Y
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a tongue upon which is mounted the plate 2, said plate being provided with a plurality of alined perforations 3 and through which bolts are passed, said bolts serving to secure the plate in place upon the outer end of the tongue 1.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed J'uly 25, 1912.
Patented Feb. 18, 1913. serial No. 711,526. l
The plate 2 is provided with a pair of upstanding integrally formed ears 4, said ears being provided near their upper ends with registered perforations 5, and through which is passed a bolt 6 for pivotally securing the inner end of the bar 7. The lower edge of the bar 7 is provided with a plurality of notches 8, the purpose of which will appear later. The outer end of the plate 3 is formed with ears 9, the same being similar to the ears Ll, and are likewise provided with registered perforations 10 and through which is passed a locking bolt 11, said locking bolt heilig for the purpose of holding the bar 7 in its locked position as the saine rests upon the upper surface of said bar.
The neck yoke 12 is provided with a 'clip 13 which is adapted to engage in any one of the notches 8, as the occasion may require, thus producing a device which will permit the ready adjustment of the neck yoke.
IVhat is claimed is In combination with a wagon tongue, of a plate adapted to be secured to the outer end thereof, said plate having a pair of ears formed integrally upon the rear end thereof, a bar having its inner end pivotally connected between the ears, said bar having its lower edge provided with a series of notches, similar ears mounted upon the outer end of the plate, a bolt removably carried by said ears and adapted to rest upon the upper surface of the outer end of said bar to hold the same in its locked position, and a neck yoke having a clip formed thereon for adjust-ably engaging any one of said notches, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
ELDRIDGE Q. MAXCY. lVitnesses C. T. MORRISON, J. V. HoRToN.
