particular application to certain novel and useful improvements in toy wagons or wheeled cages carrying a figure o r figures designed to have movement imparted thereto when the wagon is in motion.

In carrying out my invention, it is my purpose to provide a novel and amusing toy, comprising, in the present instance, a circus wagon or cage having a plurality of figures, representing in the present instance a lion or other animal, and a man or animal trainer, these figures being adapted to have movement imparted thereto through the rotation of the axle when the wagon or cage is drawn along the ground, so that the figures of the animal will appear to be springing or jum ing at the gure of the man or trainer, w ile the latter will appear to be striking the jumping figure of the animal.

With the above-recited objects, and others of a similarnature in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, set forth in and falling within the scope of the appended claim.

In the accompanying drawing :-Figure 1 is a side view of a toy embodying my in vention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken through the base or floor of the cage or Wagon on the line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a similar view taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1.

Referring now to the accompanying drawings in detail, the letter A indicates a Y structure which is a miniature representation of a circus wagon or cage and the numeral 1 indicates the base thereof which is provided with longitudinally extending slots 2 and 3 spaced apart and at a suitable distance. Depending from the sides of the base of the wagon are the axle bearings 4, there being two pair of such bearings one at the front and one at the rear of the Wagon. Carried by the front pair of bearings in the usual manner is an axle 5 having its central portion bent to form the off set portion 6, said axle carrying at the ends Patented Feb. 18, 1913.

or spindle portions thereof the front traction wheels 7. Similarly the axle bearings at the rear of the vehicle carry an axle 8 with the central ofi'set portion 9, the rear wheels 10 bein carried at the ends of the axle. It is to fie understood that the front and rear traction wheels are fast on the axle so that the axles turn when the wagon is drawn along the ground.

The numeral 11 designates the tongue of the wagon, pivotally connected to the bail 12 at the front of the wagon or head.

Within the cage is the figure of an animal, in the present instance a lion, indicated by the letter L, the rear portion of the body of the figure being pivotally connected as at 13 to the stationary rear legs 14, the lat ter straddling the slot 3. A sinuous or S- shaped lever 15 is connected at one end to the rear of the animal, said lever extending downward through the slot, the free curved end 16 of said lever extendin below the base and which .is designed to e contacted by the offset portion of the front .axle when the wagon is in motion so that said lever will be actuated to give the animal a jumping orspringing motion, the body of the figure rearing upon the pivot 13. The figure of the man or animal trainer is also constructed with a pair of stationary legs 17 which straddle the slot 3 and are secured at the feet to the base, the bodv 18 of the figure of the man being pivotall mounted to swing upon the legs through t e medium of the pivot 19. A lever 20 is connected to the swinging body portion of the figure, said lever projecting down through the slot 3 and is provided with a rearwardly curved end portion 21 adapted to contact with the offset portion of the rear axle when the wagon is in motion to give the body portion of the figure a swinging movement downward and forward from the point where it is pivoted to the leg. Said figure is further provided with an outstretched arm 22 carrying a stick, whip or other article which is adapted to strike the head of the figure of the animal, as the latter is sprung or 3umped forward as heretofore described.

From the above description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, my invention will be readily understood.
