PORTABLE ILLUMINATED ADVERTISING-POUCH.
Application led October 3, 1912.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, AARON MILHADO, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Norfolk, in the county of Norfolk and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Illuminated Advertising-Pouches, of which the following is a specication.
The object of my invent-ion is to provide a pouch or other portable receptacle made of any suitable waterproof material and constructed to hold various commodities to be sold therefrom.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a sales pouch on one side of which various indicia are displayed in any suit-- able manner adapted for day use while the indicia are in the form of a transparency on the other side for night use, there being a suitable source of light to illuminate the indicia whereby they may be read from a distance; and with these and other objects in view my invention consists of the parts and combination of parts as will be hereinafter more fully pointed out.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pouch illustrating my invention showing the night side the top being open; Fig. 2 is an elevation of Fig. 1 showing the day side with the top closed; Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 Fig. 2 looking in the direction of the arrow; Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line 4, 4 Fig. 2.
The reference numeral 1 designates the pouch which may be made of any material desired but I prefer to construct it of waterproof material in order that the commodity therein may be protected from the elements, because the pouch is especially designed to be carried by street venders and will therefore be exposed to the elements. rIhe pouch is suspended from the shoulders by means of the strap 2. The cover 3 of the pouch 1s an extension of one side of the pouch and is provided with snap buttons 4 of approved constructions constructed to enter the snap sockets 5 on the pouch or bag.
The pouch may be divided into as many compartments as found desirable according to the variety and character of the commodities to be sold therefrom, but for purposes of illustrating my invention I have divided the interior of the pouch by a partition 6 thereby providing two compartments 7 and Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 11, 1913. serial No. 723,806. I
8. 9 is a locking tab or strap secured at one end to the partition 6 and provided with a snap button 10 at its other end constructed to enter a snap socket on one side of the bag or pouch whereby the compartment 8 may be closed at its top as more clearly shown in Fig. 3. As stated the commodities 11 may be varied.
The day side 12 may have varied indicia 13 displayed thereon by printing, painting labels, etc., it being desirable to have the indicia sufliciently large to enable one to read them at a distance. rIhe night side is also provided with varied indicia but on this side they are in the form of a transparency; the body 14 of the indicia being formed of glass, mica, Celluloid etc.
In the compartment 8 I arrange for pur-- poses of illustration a series of small electric light bulbs 15 over a reflecting surface 16 whereby light is reflected through the transparent indicia 14 whereby the same may be read for a considerable distance at night thus advertising the goods at. night and thereby eliminating the necessity of the vender crying out his wares and at the same time providing a ready means to enable a customer to locate the vender. The light bulbs 15 are connected to suitable batteries 17 in the compartment 8 positioned under and furnishing a support for the reflector 1G as shown in Fig. 3. The light is controlled by means of a switch 18, of any suitable construction.
19 are suitable conductors between the batteries, lights, and switch. It is of course understood that any suitable source of light may be used.
Many cities have police regulations prohibiting the crying out of goods so as to reduce to a minimum street noises; and in such cities the vender is handicapped especially at night and some purchasers are inconvenienced whereas by the use of the night side of this pouch the public may very readily locate a vender selling stamps, confectionery, newspapers, shoe strings, tobacco and tobacco product-s and other commodities.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A portable dispensing pouch having a cover, a partition dividing the pouch into compartments, a source of light in one of the compartments on one side of the pouch, indicia cut through the outer side of the in presence of two witnesses. compartment Containing the source of light, AARON MILHADO a transparent covering for the indicia through which the light 1s reflected whereby the indicia may he read at night, and indicia on the other side of the pouch for day use.
