WILLIAM s'ToKEsioFNnW YORK, N. Y.
Letters Patent No. 105,274, elated J'uly 12, 1870.'
IMPROVEMENT IN SUSPENSION PAPER-CLIPS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the saine.
1 skilled in the art to make and use the same, refereuce being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of lthis specification.
lhe present invention relates io'a new and useful device for suspending and holding cards, 85e., the coilstruction and operation of which will be fully understood from the following description.
Figure 1 represents a front view of my device, showing the same clasped to a card, and suspended from a cord.
Figure 2 is a side view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
' This suspender and clasp is constructed of sheet metal, suitably tempered, to give the amount of spring necessary for its specific purpose.
In this case tlie letters A A represent two slots, stamped or eut through the. back portion ofthe claspplate, and B B represent two lips, likewise cut and bent inward-at right angles to the upper portion of the elasp-plate, so that the points of the said lips may just cuter the lower part of thel aforesaid slots.
The clasp-plate is bent over, s o as to form a spring loop, C, at its top, which will serve to keep the shoulder of the catch, which is on the lips B B, forced downward, and locking over the lower edge of the slots on the clasp-plate, thus holding itself secure, without bending over the points B, when set on a card, as is now commonly done.
The suspending device consists of a circular piece of sheet metal, D, whose inner portion E is partiallyl stamped or outv through, leaving a neck, F, which is bent outward sufficientlyto allow it to slide freely on a cord, from which it cau'not be detached without first l forcing ont the inner portion E, which forms a spring to hold it in its place. y
Having thus described my invention, What I. hclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isi Anv improved self-perforatin g show-card fastener and suspender-lock, consisting of the circular piece of sheet metal D, having inner part E, the slotted spring loop O, and lips B B, all constructed and adjusted together as and for the purpose specified.
The above speciticatiou of 'my invention signed by me this 22d day of October, 1869.
WILLIAM STORES.
