Description
AUGUSTA M. RODGERS, BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
Letters Patent No. 105,253, dated July 12, 1870.
` IMPROVED FOLDING- CHAIR.
The Schedule referred to-in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom fit may concern Be it known that I, AUGUSTA M. Ronenns, -of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings andl State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Folding Chairs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof', sufficient to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, reference being had tothe accompanying drawing making part of this specification, in which- Figure l is'a front View of a chair in a folded or closed state, and illustrating my invention.
Figure 2 is a side view thereof.
Figure 3 is a side view of the chair fully open, and in position for occupation.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
My invention relates to an improvement on my former Letters Patent, datedMarch 30,1869, in that class of chairs that may be 'conveniently folded for transportation or storage, and consists in the construction and arrangement ot' parts as will be hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawing- A represents the seat;
It, the back;
C', the legs that extend from the front of the seatto rear; and
D, the legs that extend from rear to front.
The side pieces of the back B are slotted in the direction of their length, as are also the legs O.
The legs G` are pivoted to the sides ot' the front portion of the seat A, as at a, andq the legs D are pivoted to thesides of the rear of the seat Aby bolts, screws, rods, or equivalents, E, which pass through the slots inthe side pieces of the back, and into or-througli the seat A, or sockets or brackets thereon.
The legs D are likewise pivoted to the legs C, the pivots F thereof passing through or into both legs and-the side pieces.
The location of the parts is best seen in jig. 1. The legs D are on the outside, the legs Con the inside, and the side pieces ofthe back between the two sets'of legs.
It will be seen that a simple kand convenient chair is produced.
The advantages of the present case over the former .patent are, the shortening of the side pieces constitilting the back, and the employment of the pivots of the two legs for the connection between the lower portion of the side pieces of back and said legs, whereby there is a saving of material and of two pivots, be sides a simplification in the structure of' the chair.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A folding chair, consisting of seat A, slotted side pieces of back B, legs C, slotted legs D, and pivots E F, when constructed and arranged as herein described.
The above signed by me this 13th day of April,
AUGUSTA M. RODGERS.
