Description

c. R.'JAGOBI.'
KINDLING FAGOT. No. 105,213. Patented July 12', 1870.

Letters Patent No. 105,213, datedJulg 12, 1870.
IMPROVED Emma's-recon.
The Schedule referred to is these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern shavings of cork refuse discarded by the cork manu-' facturers, and, until now, wholly worthless for any known useful purpose, the said bundle or fagot being formed by rolling the shavings into compact shape, fastening in any way, and dipping in a bath of varnish or any liquid substance which will adhere and facilitate the ignition,
' The drawing represents a view of one of my improved fagots.
Fagots have been made of sticks of wood, piled together in various ways, and secured and coated with substance that wilLreadily ignite, but they have not been found as successful, practically, as is desired, owing to,the large amount required of the light and rapidly-burning wood used, the large quantity of the resinous substance, and the labor involved in cutting the wood for bundling.
I have found,'by practical experiment, that the i shavings and refuse of the cork of commerce are naturally better adapted for kindling purposes than any known substance, as they burn slowly, makingaglowing and intense heat, and swell to nearly double the natural size, and, when ignited, are not easily extinguished.
These shavings are found in the proper condition for bundlin'g, and therefore require no previous cutting or preparation for bundling; I am therefore enabled to provide kindling-fagots of better quality than those now in use at less expense.
I propose mainly to enable small fagots to he used in substitution for paperin igniting the kindling-wood, but I also make them of larger size, for use solely for kindling the coal.
The said bundles are tied together in compact form by strings or otherwise, and immersed in a bath of resinous substance.
Having thus described my invention,
I -claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent--- 1 As an improved article of manufacture, kindlingflagots, made of cork shavings and coated \vitlu'esinous substance, substantially as specified.
- he above specification of my invention signed by me this Sthday of December, 1869.
