F. R. LITTON. BATH TUB ATTACHMENT.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT.6, 1911.

BATH-TUB ATTACHMENT.
Be it known that-I, FULTON R. LrrroN, a citizen of the United 'States, residing at Albuquerque, in the county of "Bernahllo and State of New Mexico, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bath-Tub Atfication.
The present invention provides for partitioning off a-bath" tub, whereby'the same- 'may'lbe adapted for bathing children, or as titio'nto the-tub in the located position, the parts being so constructed as to insure aa foot tub, or'for use as a sitz-bath, the purpose being to provide'a partition-which may belocatedat any required'point in the'length of the tub, and means for securing the parclose-joint between the partitionand the and readily removed as may be desired.
The invention consists of the novel features, details of construction and combination of parts, which hereinafter will be more particularly set forth, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the appended claim.
Referring to the drawi' View of part of a ath tub showing themvention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a side view of the attachment, the dotted lines showing pivotal movement of the hooks and the operation of the cast off. Fig. 3 is a section on the line :vw of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line yy of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 4 of a modification.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description, and indicated in all the views of the drawing, by the same reference characters.
The numeral 1 designates a bath tub of the type provided with a rolled rim. The device comprises a partition 2 and a securing bar 3. The partition 2 is of a size to fit within the tub and to conform to the outline thereof so as to cause its lower and vertical edges to engage with the bottom and sides of the tub. A yieldable edge 4 is fitted to the bottom and sides of the partition and insures a close joint with the cor-.
responding parts of the tub to prevent the escape of water from one side of the partition to the other. The yieldable edge 4 is Specification of Letters Patent.

to be made either of rubber or pneumatic flexible tube, sufliciently yielda-ble to conform to the outline of the tub to insure a close joint. The partition may be of" any material, either metal or wood, and" the yieldable edge 4 may "be secured in place:-
their lower ends to the. bar-fii-fiand their hooked ends are adapted to engageover the rim of the tub. "The book 6 has an inner 7 extension 7, which engages under the roll at i the upper edge of the tub, thereby: 'reventing vertical. displacement of the ho'o or the "A cast-off 8 ishing'edly connected .tothe hooked :end of bottom and'si'des of the tub; and to enable" the device being easily andquickly placed in position the projection-9 formed by the hinge joint springing under the rolled rim of'thetub to hold the book 5 in place, thereby preventing 'casual upward movement of the bar 3L The cast-ofi 8 isadapted to extend beneath the rolled rim of the tub and to engagegaiside I of the tub, thereby'being out of the way.:'; An
extension 10 of the 'cast-ofi": overhangs-{the rolled rim of the tub and is adapted *to operate through a slot formed in the hook 5.. When pulling outward upon the lower end of the cast-ofi 8 the extension l'O'is caused to bear against the rolled rim of the tub,
thereby springing the projection 9 ffrom1be neath the lower edge ofthe-rolled rim and lifting the hook 5 upward and startingthe partition which may be easily removed.
After the hook-5 has been disengaged from the rolled rim of the tub the partition'may be lifted at one end, whereby the book 6 may be easily disengaged from the rolled rim of the tub to admit of the partition being lifted from the tub to be laid aside or to be.
adjusted to a new position as required.
Guide means is provided between the securing bar and the partition to hold the latarms 11 have outer extensions 13 which on upper portions of each 'pair of arms-11 and are adapted to engage the upper edge of the partition 2 whereby the latter maybe forcily moved downward'after the securing bar 3 has been fastened to insure a, close joint between the partition and the tub. For convenience of turning the eccentrics 14 finger pieces are attached to extensions of one of the journals. 1
When a part of the bath tub is required to be partitioned off to suit any condition the securin bar 3 is placed imposition'and made fast yaengagingithe hooks 5 and 6 beneath the rolled rimof the" tub, after enables any'part'of'the tub to be partitioned;
which the eccentrics 1-4: are turned to press thepartition downward to cause the yieldable edge Lthereof to make a close joint with the bottom and sidesof the t b, This as so that economy in the use of water may be attained while the :;tub is; adapted for bathing children, the feet, or forindulging in a sitz-bath When it isrequired to move the partition the eccentrics 14 are turned to; relieve the-pressure upon the partition, after "which the cast-ofl 8' is, operated to release the ,hOOk 5 when the end [of the partition corresponding to the position of the hook 5-isli the rolled rim 0 the tub so that-the partition and securing bar may be lifted from the tub. o
From the foregoing connection with the accompanying drawing, the advantages of the constructionandof themethod of operation will be readily ap-Y parent to those skilled in the art to whichthe invention appertains, andwhile I have described the principle of-operationof the ed, thereb releasing the hook 6 from description, vtaken in invention, together with the device which I now considen'to be the embodiment thereof, I desire, to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative, and that such changes may be made when desired as are within the scope of the claim appended hereto. a
In the modification shown in Fig. 5 the partition 2 is solid, preferablyi of; wood, and has a: pneumatic-;. edge-. P, thelatter consistfi ing oiatube seated-in a groove' formed inthe edgeofthe ,partition. I 7
Having thus described the invention. what is claimed as new, is I 1 Meansfor partitioning abath. tub having 9. rolled r-im, the same consisting of a bar to extend, across the tub, ahookpivottally connected to onev end of the'r bar oand having an inner extension to engage, under the rim of the tub, asecondhoo pivotally connected to the oppositeend of thebaroand having outer ,end longitudinally slotted, a castoff pivotally' connected to the slotted end of ,the hook and having an extensionto operate ,through the slotted endof the, hook I to engagenthe rim of the tub, the. hinge be-
