INVEAZ'TUH UNITED sTATnsrArENT OFFICE.
ERNEST HUNOLD, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
RAZOR-STROP-CLAMPING DEVICE.
Application filed July 27, 1912.
b at whom. it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ERNEST I'IUNOIJI), a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Razor- Strop-Clamping Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has reference to an improvement in razor strops and more particularly to an improvementin means for detachably securing the strop to convenient articles of furniture such as dressers, bureaus, drawer stands, etc.
In means used for detachably securing a razor stro-p in position for use such as a hanger or similar device on the strop, the hanger or securing device must be rigidly secured in place against a lateral movement as well as againsta direct pull on the strop, to obtain the best result from the strop, in stropping the razor. Devices as heretofore used for this purpose which are inserted between the drawer and stationary portion of the dresser usually require a'ledge or similar *aised element for holding the device against a pull on the strop; also there is usually no means for holding the hanger or securing device against a lateral movement.
The object of my invention is to improve the construction of a razor strop clamping device, whereby the strop is pivotally secured to the clamping device, the clamping device is detachably secured to an article of furniture such as a dresser and when so secured is rigidly held in place against a lateral movement as well as against a direct pull on the strop.
Another object of my invention is to con struct a clamping device for razor strops so that the same acts as a wedge. between the drawer and stationary portion of a dresser or similar article of furniture, a further closing of the drawer or a stronger pull on the strop acting to more firmly secure the clamping device in place.
A further object of my invention is to construct a clamping device for razor strops so thatthe device is rigidly secured between the drawer and stationary part of a dresser or similar article, without the use of a ledge or similar raised element on the dresser.
My invention consists in the peculiar and novel construction of a clamping device for razor strops, said clamping device having.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 28, 1913.
Serial No. 711,870.
details of construction, as will be more fully set forth hereinafter and claimed.
Figure l. is a side sectional view of a port-ion of an article of furniture, such as a dresser, and showing the pivot end portion of a strop provided with my improved clamping device detachably secured to the dresser. Fig. 2. is a top plan View of the clamping device with a portion of the strop pivot-ally secured thereto by a universal joint. Fig. is a perspective view of the clai'nping device, and Fig. l. is a face view of the sheet steel blank from which the clamping device is formed.
In the drawings indicates a side sectional view of a portion of a dresser, 6. the pivot end portion of a razor strop and T. the clamping device. The dresser has the usual wooden top 8. and drawer 9. The strop 6. is secured to a metal end member 10 which is pivotally secured to a stud 11. which inturn is pivotally secured to the pivot end of the clamping device 7. by a nut 12., forming a universal joint connection between the strop and the clamping device. This universal joint construction forms no part of my present invention.
The clamping device 7. is formed preferably from sheet steel shaped to have, when in use, a flat horizontal pivotend portion 13. in which is a pivot hole 14;. for the stud 11., a downwardly inclined straight flat body portion 15., an upwardly turned straight inner end portion 16. on which is formed a plurality of pointed teeth 17. 17 as shown in Figs. 2. and 3. The teeth 17. 17. are hardened or tempered so as to penetrate easily and resist wear. The straight flat body portion is bentdownward preferably at an angle of approximately 15 degrees to the end portion 13. and the inner end portion 16. reversely bent at an angle of approximately '70 degrees to the body portion 15.
lVhen in use, the clamping device, which now forms a part of the strop, may be inserted between the drawer and top of a dresser or similar article. in the position as shown in Fig. 1. and the drawer closed. The closing of the drawer 9. on to the dowlr wardly inclined straight fiat body portion 1.5.of the clamping device, which operates as a wedge, forces the teeth. 17. 17. into the underside of the wooden top 8. of the dresser. The clamping device is now rigidly wedged or secured to the dresser against a lateral as well as a direct pull on the same. A further closing of the drawer on the downwardly inclined straight flat body portion 15 or an excessive pull on the strop will tend to more firmly wedge or secure the clamping device in place by forcing the teeth 16. 16. farther into the wooden top of the dresser. 1
Having thus described my invention 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A razor strop clamping device formed of, sheet metal and so shaped that when in use the clamping device has a straight flat horizontal end portion in which is a pivot hole, an inclined straight flat body portion bent downwardly at an angle of approxi mately 15 degrees to the end portion an upwardly extending straight end bent at an angle of approximately 70 degrees to the body portion and a plurality of saw teeth on the upwardly extending end.
2. A razor strop clamping device formed of sheet steel and so constructed that when in use the clamping device has-a straight horizontal end portion rounded at the end in which is a pivot hole, an inclined straight flat body portion bent downwardly at an angle and adapted to operate as a wedge, an upwardly extending straight end bent at a reverse angle to the body portion and two saw teeth on the upwardly extending end, the ends of the teeth extending upward to approximately a horizontal line drawn across the surface of the horizontal end portion.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
