To all whom t may concern Y Be it known that I, JOHN D. ALLEN, a native-born American citizen, residing at Littleton, in the county of Arapahoe and State of Colorado, have invented new and useful Improvements in Milk-Cans, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to milk cans and has for an object to provide a device of this kind which will include sections which may be readily secured together and so constructed that when they are separated access is gained within the Sectio-ns so as to permit them to be effectually subjected to a sterilizing bath and to thereby permit the can to be maintained in a highly sanit-ary condition.

Another object of the invention is to provide means whereby the sections when connected together will present a plane or straight surface within the can and to avoid the formation of abrupt portions within the can to which sediment or foreign matter could adhere.

In the drawing forming a portion of this application, and in which like letters of reference indicate similar parts in the several views :-Figure 1 is a vertical section through the can. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the can. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the supporting platform for holding one of the sections of the can against rotation during the operation of separating the sections or connecting them together.

The can 1 herein shown comprises an upper section 2 and a lower section 3, the latter being eXteriorly threaded as at t to receive the exteriorly threaded portion 5 of the upper section so that when the sections are connected together the joint therebetween will be efectually sealed and the can made liquid tight at this point. The section 2 may be provided with a breast like upper portion 6 and a neck or mouth 7, however modifications in the configuration of this section of the can may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention. The lower section 3 is of the same inside diameter throughout, being closed preferably by a bottom 8 which includes an inner metallic cap like member 9, an outer cap member 10 and an intermediate member 11 of wood or elastic shock absorbing material. Tit-h a view to facilitating the work involved in connecting the sections together or in separating them from each other I pro. vide the intermediate member 11 of the bottom of the can with a rectangular vertically disposed socket 15 which is struck up as at 1G into a central portion of the cap 10. A platform 17 which is adapted to be secured in any suitable well known manner to a floor or desired support is provided with a central upstanding rectangular lug 18 which is adapted to be extended into the socket 19 of the member 10. From this construction it is evident that the can may be placed with its bottom upon the platform 17 and disposed thereon so that the projection 18 of the platform will extend into the socket 19. The engagement of the part 18 in the socket will positively hold the section 3 of the can against rotation so that the operator may grasp the upper section to effect its separation from said lower section or connect the same therewith as will be understood.

The two sections of the can when separated may be' thoroughly washed and sterilized so as to relieve the can of germs or foreign matter and the can thereby maintained in a highly sanitary condition.

I claim 1. A jacket of separable sections, a bottom having a socket closing one end of the sect-ions7 and means adapted to be extended into the sockets for permanently holding one section against rotation when separating said sections.

2.
