Gombination Barrette and Comb, of which the following is a specication.

My invention relates to improvements in barrettes, hair combs, or ornaments for insertions into the hair.

The object of my invention is to 4provide a comb which is formed of a single iece of material, such as Celluloid, viscoloi horn,

With the foregoing andother objects in view, the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangements and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and described.

In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing forming part of 'this specication, wherein like characters denote correspondf ing parts in the several views, and in whichv Figure 1 is a front view showing a comb in combination with a barrette. Fig. 2 1s a rear view of the barrette removed from the comb.. Fig. 3 is a sectional view showing the pin pivot and fastener for securing the barrette to the comb, and, Fig. 4 shows the top portion of the comb with the barrette removed.

Refe to the drawing, -1 indicates the solid or bo y portion of the comb and 2the teeth which are formed integral therewith.

The body portion, I provide with apertures 3 and 4. It is to be noted that the aperture 4 is of greater dimensions than the aperture "3; the reason for making the aperture of different dimensions will be hereinafter more fully explained. The 'ornamental part @5 erplate of the vbarrette I provide with an yomnainental design, here shown as approxi mately diamond shaped figures and having ornamental rowsof settings formings which-intersect the diamond ligures, dn not desire to limit my invention to such particular design as any ornamental and appropriate design for a hair ornament may be used. I form a projection @integral with the ornamental plate of the barrette which is provided with apertures in the end thereof and through which I run the pin 7. The in 'K is formed with two arms as shown Iin Fig. 2. On the opposite end of the plate I provide a projection 8, having a hooked end portion under which the ends of the pin are secured. The pin points extend beyond the fasteninf` hooks in order that thel end may lie against the inner surface ofthe comb and thus prevent possible injury to the wearer nues ut I by the points of the pin. The projection 6 to which the pin is connected is of larger ldimensions than the projection forming the fastening for the pin in order that it provide a strong securing means and to accommodate the size of the projection, the aperture 4 is of a larger size than the aperture 3 in the comb.

In connecting the barrette to the' comb, the pin is placed at right angle to the ornamental plate and the ends drawn through the aperture 4 until the inner surface of the plate comes in contact with the outer surface of the comb when the pin is brought into a closed position and the fastening means are insertedthrough the projection 3 whereupon the end may be secured beneath the hook shaped ends and the barrette is securely attached to the comb.

The improved barrette and comb combined as herein set forth provides means for effectively holding various ornamental barrettes that may' be Worn in combination with a comb and the same be exposed while the tines of the comb are inserted into the hair of the wearer.

is thought will be understood from the foregoing description, it being noted that various changes maybe made in the proportions and details of construction without departing from the scope of my invention as defined by the appended claims.

Having fully described my invention,

1. The combination of a barrette having' projections formed therewith, of a comb provided with apertures adapted to receive saidl projections and a pin suitably secured 1 to one of the projections and adapted 'to interlock with the other pro] ection whereby the barrette is secured to the comb.
