ANEMOMETER.
Speeication of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 14, 1913.
Application led June 18, 1912. Serial No. 704,271,
T o'aZZ whom t may concern.'
Be it lmown that I, HENRY DAVIS, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, and resident of All ASaints Works, Amen Alley, in the county borou h of Derb England, (Whose post-oiiice ad ress is Al Saints Works, Amen Alley, Derby, lEngland,) have invented certain neT and useful Improvements in Anemometers, (for which I have applied for a patent in Great Britain, said application being numbered 17,075 and dated July 26, 1911,) of which the following is a specification.
The objects of my invention are to obtain a Sensitive instrument of the least possible diameter and one that may without diil'iculty be held so that the operators body or arm Will not impede or detie'ct the current of air: and further, to obtain a dial which may be easily and therefore accurately read.
Referring to the drawings which form a part of this specitication:-Figure 1 is a sectional elevation on line a-a of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is an elevation of my improved anemometer from the dial side.
In carrying out my invention I cause the fan b to be larger in proportion to the size of the instrument than usual, said an starting approximately at the central shaft c and extending to the outer protecting ring (Z: I employ a defiecting cone e with its apex adjacent the fan and enlarged toward its base to substantially the inside diameter al of the outer protecting ring d of the instrument. An-.-annular port g is formed in the said protecting ring or casing to admit of the free exit of the air passed through the vanes and deiiected by the cone in the direction of the arrows on Fig. l, as already set forth: the deflection pf the air from the person of the operator insuring accurate Working of the instrument.
The unit indicating dial f coming at the back of the base of the detlecting cone may be made the full diameter of the protecting ring d, and so enable small quantities or currents of air to be measured with accuracy. The inside of the cone contains the train of Wheels for operating the indicating dials.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In an anemometer, in combination, a fan of large proportions, an outer casingv or protecting ring wherein said fan is mounted, said casing carrying a deflecting cone, there being an annular port between said ring and said cone, the internal part of said cone containing a train of Wheels and the base of said cone being fitted with a dial the unit ring of which approximates the size of the protecting ring. i
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of tWo subscribing Witnesses.
HENRY DAVIS.
