SILO LADDER ATTACHMENT.
speeiae'atio'n 'of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 7,1913.
Application led August 9, 1911. Serial No.y 643,184.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, LEANDER C. BRIOKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Seattle, in thecounty of King and State of lVashington, have invented a new and useful Improvement in 4Silo Ladder Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to silos and has for its object the provision of means for suspending a ladder from the upper edge of the silo.
In its preferred embodiment, my invention comprises a plurality of hangers attached to the silo atthe upper edge thereof, as by being hooked over the edge, support ing a rail which runs around theoutside of the silo and is adapted to receive rollers attached to a ladder, whereby the same is held suspended from the silo and may be readily shifted around the silo to the desired position.
In the'accompanying drawings Figure 1 to hold the ladder L in suspended position.
Each hanger comprises a main vertical member 3 which engages the front of the silo, a rearwardly extending horizontal member 4 which engages the upper edge of the silo, a downwardly extendingi rear member 5 engaging the inner side of the silo, an upright member 6 connected to the lower end of the main vertical member 3 and spaced therefrom by the horizontal connection 7. rlhe upright members 6 of the hangers are each provided with a slot 8 in which the rail R is secured by means Aof suitable fastening devices as bolts or rivets 9. The rail is held edgewise in the slot 8 and is adapted to receive the anged rollers 10 carried bythe transverse bars 12 and 13 mounted on studs or bolts 14. The bolts 14 act as pivots for the rollers 10. f
It will be seen from the ,above thatvI have provided simple and easily applied means for supporting the rail from the upper edge sition.
The hangers I-I may at theirrear ends terminate in Vhook portions 15 for receiving a rod o-r wire 16 which. connects the hangers together at that point. Suitable vmeans is provided ,for tightening this rod or wire. In this way the hangers are reinforced and the strain on the hangersdue tothe weight of the ladder at the front ends, is relieved or taken up at the connected rear ends.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letfy ters Patent of the United States is: t
1. In combination, a cylindrical shaped silo, a plurality of hangers, each hanger consisting of a main vertical member provided'. at its upper end with a rearwardly extending hook portion for engaging Athe silo and at its lower point with a forwardly extending bracket portion, a rail Aaround said silo supported by said bracket portions and designed as atrack for a traveling member, a reinforcing rod or wire hooked over the rearwardly extending hook portions to reinforce said silo at its upper end, and a traveling member on said track.
y2. In combination, a cylindrical shaped silo, a rail around said silo, means for supporting said rail in position near the top of and spaced apart from said silo, said means comprising a plurality of hangers, yeach hanger consisting of a main vertical member provided at its upper end with a rearwardly extending hook portion for engaging the interior of the silo, and atk its. lower point with a forwardly extending bracket portion, said forwardly extending portion being recessed to receive said rail, a
of a silo to hold the ladder in suspended poreinforcing rod or wire hooked over the suspended from said frame, substantially as rearwardly extending hook portions for conand for the purpose described. 10 necting the rearwardly extending portions In witness whereof, I hereunto subscribe of the hangers to reinforce said silo at its my name this third day of June A. D. 1911.
