Application filed April 22, 1912. Serial No. 692,314.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OSCAR JOHNSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Marseilles, in the county of Lasalle and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Floor-Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a floor clamping device, adapted especially for holding floor boards in position until nailed.
The invention consists of the novel features of construction hereinafter described, pointed out in the claim and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section illustrating the device in use. Fig. 2 is a plan view, an operating lever being shown in section. Fig. 3 is a rear View of one of the blocks, a metal plate being removed, and, Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4L4 of Fig. 1.
In the drawings, 1 and 2 represent suitable blocks adapted to rest upon the floor joist, the block 1, which I will term the rear block, is provided with parallel, horizontal bores 4 in which loosely work therear ends of rods 5, the forward ends of which are threaded into the rear face of the block 2. An operating lever 6 is pivoted at its lower end to the lower front portion of the block 1, and is pivotally connected by a link 7 to the upper rear portion of the block 2. A pawl 8 is pivotally mounted upon the block 1 and engages suitable rack teeth 9 formed upon the lower portion of the lever 6. The forward portion of the block 2, which is reduced in height is bifurcated as shown in Fig. 2 and the ends of the bifurcation are grooved as shown at 10 to receive the tongues of the floor boards 12, the opening 11 produced by bifurcating the forward end of the block permitting the driving of nails while the floor board is clamped in position.

A device of the kind described, comprising a block, having its forward end bifur cated and also grooved to engage the tongue of a floor board, a rear block, pins carried by the rear block adapted to engage a joist, said rear block having horizontally extending bores opening through its front face,
rods carried by the rear portion of the mov- I able block and adapted to slide in said bores, a leverpivotally connected to the rear block, a pivoted link connecting the lever to the movable block, and means carried by the rear block for locking the lever in clamping position, as and for the purpose set forth.
