In many instunccs this is undesirable. especially when the flocruicm form is intended to be eiiilhccd for di vinp: tho clay quickly. In such can. .ihercforc, the. flakes are also allowed to ini'pin sie against a rotary drum, com'cycr. hell or the like moving at such a \clo ity that the flakes areideposiled singly side by side without hccoming rcunitgxi and these flakes are then detached froin the drums. by means of a scraper.
The new machine is illustrated in the accompanying drawings. in which" Figure 1 is a. ceniral longitudinal section and Fig. is. a transverse section through the beater mechanism.
a are the heaters which are secured to the I'cvolYinQ' shaft 1) in lhc known manner; 0 is tlw cylindrical casing which extends coniiniiously from the, coloring edge a to the wit Edge 6.
j is ihe charging hopper and on the side of this hoopcr that is sitnaled in the direclion of rotation, is mounted Hie iced roller 9 which hikes up tho particles dcluchcrl from tho 12855 by the ljzflalfilia' and projcclcl in the 11c direction, and feeds them to the entrance edge (1, whereupon the process already described goes on in the section between (i l eahing damn of the separated fragments into fine flakes. Beyond the edge e the flakes travel in the direction indicated by the arrow, on to the surface of the rotary drum Ii and remain sticking to the said sur face untii they are detached h the scraper l1: and fall down one by one. hepar'ticles may be dried in any suitable. orpreferred manner either before or after removal from said surface.
ltwill be evident that the machine may be modified in various ways, withoutaltering its novel method of action or departing, from the spirit and scope of the claims.
Now what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patient is the following:
t l l i 1. The process of comnunuting moist plus l tic material which consists in slicing the material fr m lumps commiuuting the slices of material hy limiting and friction. sprcading the moist comminutod particles over a surface 15lll).- it\lllizlll)' in a single layer where in the particles do not owrlap, permitting the particles to become dr and then removiug them from said surface in such manner that they remain in comminutcd form.
2. In a machine for ct'nnminutiug moist plastic material, the combination of a casting provided with iulct and outl t opening the the arrangement of said inletand outlet opening being such that the moist plastic material is introduced into the casing radially and projected therefrom tangentially with respect to said rotating heaters, at revoluhle cyiinder arranged to receive the tangentially projected particles and means for removing the particles from the surface of said cylinder in comminuted form.
3. In a machine for connninutin moist plastic material, the combination of a par- 'ally cylindrical casing provided with inlet and outlet openings, heaters adapted to :gential planc to receive the projected comportion of said ca ing between said opening j being cylindrical, lrcutcrs ilXlilllf arranged with respect to said cyliiulrical p rtion o the asing. the ends of said heatcrs being adapted to rotate in close proximity to the inner surface thereof \vhcreh v moist plastic material may he comminutcd thoreljelween,
minutcd particles, said cylinder being adapted to rotate so that projected particles strike on StIt'('t? Sl\'t portions of the surface thereof. and means for removing the particlcs from the surface of said cylinder in such manner that they remain comininuted.
In tcstimony. that I. claim the foregoing as my imcntion. l have signed my name in prcs'cnco of two witnesses, this eighth day of .\la v. 1911.
