-The present invention relates particularly to centrifugal separatory machines in which the separated solids collect onthe inner periphery of a separating drum during centrifugal action, and in which these solids. are scraped off the inner periphery of the drum by a scraping or peeling knife while the drum is rotating, a chute-being provided to convey the'scraped solids to the outside of the drum.
The scraper is operated while the machine is running at high speed, the scraped material being thrown with great force against the walls of the chute. This material is still moist and has a tendency to bind and stick so that it will adhere to the walls of the chute, especially those walls with which it comes directly in contact after being scraped off the peripheral wall.
After a short period of operation, the chute will be clogged up and further passage of material through the chute willbe obstructed. This will cause loss of power as a result of the resistance offered to the flow of material through the chute and often necessitates the shutting down of the machine and the cleaning out of the chute.
The present invention provides an improved apparatus for preventing the material separated from the drum from adhering to the walls of the discharge chute. As an important feature of the present invention, the chute is resiliently mounted to permit vibration thereof. As another feature this chute is vibrated in response to the rotation of the drum shaft.
In the accompanying drawing, there is shown for the purpose of illustration, one form embodying the present invention, the single figure being a central longitudinal section.
In the specific embodiment of the present invention, there is provided a shaftQ which carries a drive pulley 10 and a centrifugal drum 11 open at one end and having a peripheral wall 12. The drum 11 is enclosed in a casing 13 also open at one end and the material to be treated is delivered into the interior of the drum 11 through an inlet pipe 14 passing through the-open ends of said drum and casing. The separated solid material accumulates on the wall 11 of the drum 12 in the form of a cylindrical layer, is scraped from said wall 11 by any suitable means, and is delivered to a chute 15 mounted in the interior of the drum.

This chute 16 has an inclined wall 17 leading to theoutside of the casing 13,-and as an important feature 'of the present invention is resiliently mounted to permit it to vibrate freely.
The chute 15 is stationary and the'chute 16'res'il-" tion, the chute 16 is vibrated by the action of the shaft 9. For that purpose, a rod 19 has one end pivotally connected to the chute 16. The rod is pressed towards the left by a spring engaging a 19 is one end of a lever 24 pivoted intermediate of its ends to a fixed bracket 25. The free end of the lever 24 carries a roller 27. The end ofthe shaft 9 is provided with a cam member 28 having an inclined surface 29 adapted to engage with the roller 27 so that as the shaft 9 rotates, the lever 24 is causedto oscillate about the pin 26 causing it to vibrate the chute 16. This vibratory movement of the chute causes any material which might have a tendency to cling to the walls thereof to bebroken separate therefrom and be moved towards'the discharge end of the chute.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
' 1. A centrifugal machineincluding a shaft, a
separating drum mounted for rotation with said shaft, a fixed chute inside of said drum adapted to receive separated solid material detached from the inner periphery of the drum, a chute below said first mentioned chute, means for resiliently mounting said second chute to said first chute, and means for vibrating saidv second chute to release material adhering to the walls thereof.
2. A centrifugal machine including a shaft, a separating drum mounted on said shaft for rotation therewith, a chute inside of said drum and adapted to discharge separated material from the interior of said drum to the outside thereof, and means actuated by the rotation of the shaft for vibrating said chute.
3. A centrifugal machine including a shaft, a separating drum mounted on said shaft for rotation therewith, a chute for discharging material from the interior of said drum to the outside thereof, and means actuated by the rotation of the shaft for vibrating said chute endwise of said drum.
4. A centrifugal machine including a shaft, a separating drum mounted on said shaft for rotation therewith, a chute for discharging separated material from the interior of said drum to the outside thereof, a cam carried by said shaft, and means operated by said cam for vibrating said chute.
5. A centrifugal machine including a shaft, a drum mounted on said shaft for rotation therewith, a stationary chute in the interior of said drum and adapted to receive material scraped from the inner periphery of the drum,ra second chute resiliently connected to said first mentioned chute to permit its vibration in a direction substantially endwise of said drum, said second chute having an inclined wall leading to the outside of said drum, a rod pivotally connected at one end thereof to said second chute, a lever pivoted intermediate the ends thereof and connected to the other end of said rod, and cam means connected to said shaft and engaging the free end of the lever for oscillating said lever to effect the vibration of said second chute.
6. A centrifugal separator including a basket having a shaft and a discharge opening in one end, a box shaped collector within the basket, a trough shaped discharge chute for removing the material from the basket through said opening,
ing an opening at one end, a scraper for remov- 7 ing the separated material from the peripheral wall of the drum while said drum is rotating, a chute in the interior of said drum, and having the outlet end thereof passing through the open end of the drum, said chute being in position to receive the scraped material and discharge it to the outside of the drum, the bottom wall of said chute near the outlet end thereof being imperforate and slanted with respect to a horizontal plane to facilitate the movement of material therealong, means for yieldably mounting said chute, and means on the outside of said drum for vibrating said chute endwise of said drum substantially horizontally, whereby the separated material which adheres to the walls of said chute, after being scraped from the periphery of the drum, is loosened from said walls, and propelled towards the outlet end of said chute by the horizontal component of the vibratory movement of said chute.
