This invention relates 'to toys, and particularly to mechanical devices of this class, and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which is designed to represent a horse race, or one animal chasing another, and with this object in view the invention consists in a device of the class specified constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specificationof which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my invention are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved toy device ;-Fig. 2 a similar view'showing the device in section, and Fig. 3 a front elevation showing the parts in the same position as in ig. 2, and part of the construction broken away.

In the practice of my invention, as shown in the drawing, I provide a cylindrical casing a made of sheet metal or any other suitable metal, and in which is mounted a paddle wheel 6 the shaft or axle c of which extends up through the top of the casing'a to a predetermined height, and loosely mounted thereon is a cross rod or support d on the ends of which are loosely suspended, in the form of construction shown, the figures or representations of horses 0, the cross rod or support cZ is provided with a central block (Z having a socket to receive the end of the shaft or axle c, and said cross rod or support is preferably detachably connected with said shaft or axle,

but will rotate therewith, or will turn in a horizontal plane, as said shaft or axle is rotated.

In the construction shown, the figures or representations of the horses are made of fiat boards or plates and the central back portions thereof are provided with transverse apertures 6 through which are passed hook members 03 at the ends of the rod or support d, but said figures or representations may be connect-ed with the rod d in any manner that will permit of a vertical swinging movement of said figures.

The top of the casing a is provided with a corrugated undulating or wave shaped circular track f consisting of alternate raised parts f and corresponding depressed portions f and at diametrically opposite points, the raised parts f are preferably made higher and. longer than theother raised parts of said track, as shown at f.

In mounting the figures or representations of horses on the rod or support at care is taken to so pivot them, that the head and fore feet will be normally held higher than the hips and hind feet, and as the wheel I) and the shaft or axle'c thereof, and the rod or support Z are turned, the hind feet of the figures will strike the elevated parts f of the circular track or way,-and said figures will be given an undulating movement, as they are carried around said track or way, which movement will be similar to that of racing horses, and when the hind feet of the said figures strike the higher and longer elevated parts f of said track or way, they will be given a greater movement similar to that of jumping an object or elevation, but it will be understood that the employment of the diametrically opposite elevated parts, designated at f, which are higher and longer than the other raised parts of the circular track or way is not absolutely necessary, and said elevated parts of said track or way may all be similar in form, if desired.

In the form of construction shown, I have applied to one side of the circular casing 06 a V-shaped supplemental casing a the outer end of which is provided with a door a designed to close one side of said supple-' mental casing, and said door is provided with a hlnge securing devlce a having a slot a and the casing a is provided with a staple 9 adapted to pass through said slot and hold said door in a closed position. With this construction, the casing a is provided with an opening a, which communicates with or opens into the supplemental casing a and secured to the back of the supplemental casing a or secured in said supplemental casing, in any desired manner, is a tube It with which may be connected a flexible tube 2' provided with a compressible air bulb of the usual or any preferred construction, and by manipulating said bulb 7' in the usual manner, air may be forced into the casing a through the tube 72,, and this air coming into contact with the paddles b of the wheel I) will rotate said wheel and this will carry around the rod or support (Z and the figures e, and in this way the representation of a horse race, or the chasing of one animal by another, may be produced.

My invention is not limited to the use of figures e which represent horses, and figures representing any other animal may be em ployed, and in this way, the chasing of a cat by a dog, or any other animal by another may be represented.

My invention is not limited to the means herein shown and described for turning the wheel I) and shaft 0, or for turning the shaft, nor the use of a paddle wheel for this purpose, and various changes in and modifications of the construction herein shown and described, may be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing fro-m the spirit of my invention, the essential features of which are, a suitable casing or support provided with a circular undulating track, and a central vertical shaft, and any suitable means for turning said shaft.

Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A toy device of the class described involving, an undulating circular track, a central vertical shaft provided with a transverse support, and figures or representations of animals mounted on said support and adapted to be oscillated thereon, by their feet coming in contact with the raised portions of said track.

2. A device of the class described comprising a casing, a paddle wheel mounted in said casing and provided with a shaft which passes vertically through the top thereof, a circular undulating track placed on said casing, a support connected with the top of said track, figures or representations 3. A toy device of the class described comprising, a vertical shaft, a circular undulating track inclosing said shaft, and figures representing animals supported by said shaft and adapted to be oscillated by their feet coming in contact with said track, as said shaft is turned.
