This invention relates to improvements in bungs for beer and other casks, and consists in an arrangement for clamping the cover -down upon a ring of packing placed on a ilangc at the bottom of a bush, by a. camlever having journals let into grooves iu the side walls of the bush.
Figure l. is a sectional elevation of my improved bung.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the same; and AFigure 3 is a view of' a hook used for raising the cam-lever. i
Similar leiters'of reference indicate correspondingparts.
A is the bush, screwed into the hole. in the stave in the usual way. It is provided with ahorizontal which drop into the slots C, and turn under the walls over the horizontal parts of the said slots, and hold the lever against moving upward'when it is turned down to the position shown in fig. 1, to confine thel cap upon the packing.
The lever is held in this position by the upward pressure of the-packing on the part H, which, having passed the vertical line, cannot be drawn hack without .first forcingthe packing down again to some extent.
For releasing the cover, the long arm of the cam is raised by pulling it upward with a hook, I, or other suitable device. When it is raised oi the cover it is taken out of the slots to. admit of the removal of the cover. o.
The cover E is provided with a ilange, R, projecting downward inside of the edge of the `flange B, to confine the packing on the said ange, and prevent it from bulging over the edge.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the bush A, having the dan ge B, with packing D, cover E, and cani or cranked lever F, when the said lever is ltted in the angular slots C in the wall of' ,the bush, all substantially as specified.
