A further object vofhe invention isf-the.-
provision of a. knock down board having a metallic supporting frame which is also knock down and which when connected together will provide a perfectly true edge to serve. as a guide for the T-square and other instruments. Y
A further object of the invention is the rovision of a detachable drawer to be used 1n connection with the board vwhen the same is used for oice' purposes. The board is especially designed for photographers, field engineers or any case where drafting is required to be done in the field or at points distant from the oce.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this application, and in which:
Figure 1 is a top plan view. Fig. 2 is a detail horizontal section. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is an edge elevation withl parts broken away and with the drawer and drawersupporting cleats in section.
Referring more particularly to the drawing 1 represents the frame of theA devlce which is constructed of the side members 2 and the end members 3. Boththe side and end members are preferably constructed of stamped sheet steel, brass or the like andare provided with a plurality of apertures 4 which are cut out of the metal to lighten the same and to prevent any unevenness of the board by expansion or contraction. The outside edges of the side and end members are provided with a downwardly extending flange 5 and the ends of each of said members are provided with flanges 6 which are arranged diagonally across said members so as to form a miter joint between the same. The flanges 6 are apertured to receive the connecting bolts 7 whereby the side and end members `may be secured together in rectangular form as shown in Fig. 1.
The inner edges of the side andend members have secured beneath the same by means of countersunkscrewsor rivets 8, substantially Z-shaped strips 9 which form the bored rabbet 10 extending entirely around the frame and adapted to receive the reduced ends ofthe boards 111 These boards are'preferably tongued and grooved so as to hold the boards lilush withy the upper edge of the frame throughout their length. Soft pine or other similar woods are used to construct the boards of and each board is preferably about four or five inches wide so that they will not occupy much space when packed together.
As shown in Fig. 5, there is attached to the underside of the board a pair of drawer cleats or strips 12 which are adapted to receive the overhanging flanges 13 of the drawer 14 which is also preferably constructed' of'stamped up metal. It will'be seen that by constructing a board in this manner, I amenabled to produce a board which may be readily knocked down so as to occupy small space for transportation and one which will present a perfectly true surface for drawing instruments at all times. The top or face of the side members is preferably nickeled or otherwise treated so as to present a pleasing appearance.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is- .1. In a drawing board, a frame comprising metallic side and end members, each having flanged and mitered ends, means to removably connect-the mitered ends of the side and end members so as to produce a rectangular frame, a rabbet strip carried by each of said side members, and a sectional board mounted on the rabbet strip and abutting the inner edges of the frame members.
