CLOTHES-LINE HOLDER.

To all whom ?lt may concern r Be it known that I, MICHAEL MARKIEWICZ, a subject of the Czar of Russia, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Line Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to a clothes line holder, and the primary Object of my invention is to provide a holder in the form of a revoluble drum o-r reel upon which a clothes line can be eas ily wound and supported.

Another Object of this invention is to provide a clothes line holder or reel having yieldable line supporting arms arranged to allow air to circulate between the holder and the wouncl line, whereby a damp or wet line can dry out after being used.

A further Object of this invention is to provide a clothes line holder consisting of comparatively few parts that are inexpensive to manufacture, durable and highly effieient for the purposes for which they are intended.

I attain the above objects by a mechanical construction that will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed, and reference will now be had to the drawing, where- 1n Figure 1 is a side elevation of the holder partly broken away and partly in section and Fig. 2 is a plan of the holder.

A clothes line holder in accordance with this invention comprises a cylindrical hollow drum or reel 1 having closed ends 2 and 3, the closed end 3 having a boss l provided with a longitudinal Opening 5. The opening 5 longitudinally alines with an opening 6 formed in the closed end 2 of the drum. Extending through the openings 5 and. 6 is the cylindrical end 7 of an angle hanger 8, said hanger having an integral screw 9 whereby it can be mounted in a fence post, wall or other support. The cylindrical end 7 of the angle hanger is screw threaded, as at 10 to receive a nut 11, said nut retaining the drum 1 upon the cylindrical end of the hanger.

Equally spaced apart upon the periphery of the drum 1 are a plurality of radially disposed resilient arms 12, each arm being nade of a single piece of wire that has the ends thereof bcnt to provide convolutions 13, the ends of said Wire being soldered or otherwise mounted in the drum 1, adjacent to the closed end thereof. The piece of Wire intermediate the convolutions 13 is bent to form an outwardly extending loop shaped dividing prong 14 and these prongs coperate in providing practically a double holder, that is, two clothes lines can be separately arranged upon the holder. The prongs 14; also provide means Whereby the ends of the clothes line can be attached to the holder, to prevent the clothes line from being accidentally unwound.

The resilient arms 12 prevent a clothes line from being stretched during the winding operation, as said arms yield and in this manner prevent a line from being wound too tight. With the arms 12 spaced apart from the periphery of the drum, air can circulate between a wound line and said drum` With air circulating between the drum 1 and the clothes line arranged upon the arms 12, a wet and damp line is permitted to dry out and is thereby prevented from unduly deteriorating.

The clothes line holder in its entirety is made of light and durable metal and may be painted or otherwise treated to prevent corrosion of the Inetal.

What I claim is 2- 1. A clothes line holder comprising a vertically disposed hollow cylindrical member closed at each end and constituting a drum, supporting means therefor, a plurality of radially extending lengthwise disposed resilient arms having the major portion thereof spaced from the periphery of the drum and further having their ends extending into and secured to the drum, each of said arms having their central portion bent upon itself to provide an outwardly projecting divisional tongue.
