HAND-STAMP.
My invention relates to hand stamps which are used in connection with an ink pad for the purpose of stamping designs on objects. 7 Y
The objects of my invention are to provide a device of this character that is simple and economical of construction, and that may be'used for stamping designs on convex as well as flat surfaces.
VVith these andoth'er objects in view as will appear, my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claim, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the characters of reference thereon, which form a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a top viewof my handstamp, Fig. 2 is a sectional view shown in position for inking the stamp and for stamping flat surfaces, and Fig. 3 is a sectional view showing its position when used for stamping objects with convex surfaces.
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The handle '1, plunger 2, elastic pad 3, spring ring 4., and design pad 5, constitute the par-ts of my hand stamp.
The handle 1 is preferably shaped as shown best in Figs. 2 and 3, the upper portion being adapted for the hand and provided with a flat surface on its top. The lower end is enlarged and provided with a tapered recess 1, which extends up into said handle some distance. From this recess to the top is provided a hole adapted for the plunger 2. This plunger is provided on its lower end with a head 2 and the plunger is the same length as the handle, so that when it is flush at the top the lower end is flush with the lower edge of the handle. lower outer surface of the handle is cut away and is provided with a groove adapted for the ring 4. Said ring 4 is a spring "ring adapted to spread sutliciently to pass over the portion 1 and rest in the groove. Over this lower end is placed an elastic pad 3, and the ring is pressed over the same into the groove. This provides a substantial fastening for the elastic pad, stretching the same to give it a proper surface.
Centrally located on the lower surface of elastic pad 3 is design pad 5 of approximately the same diameter as the plunger head 2*. \Vhen using the hand stamp, the plunger 2 is pressed down flush as shown in Fig. 2, then it is inked in the usual manner by applying thereto an ordinary inking pad, and if it is desired to stamp a fiat surface, the pressure on the plunger is continued on the end of plunger 2, and the stamping is made in the usual manner.
In case it is desired to stamp an object with a convex surface, the plunger 2 is released after inking and the elastic pad 3 and the design pad 5 oonformsreadily to the convex surface as shown in Fig. 3.
It is obvious that with this construction, there is provided a simple and economically constructed hand stamp, and that it may be used for both flat and convex surfaces.
Though I have shown and described a particular construction, I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, but desire to include in my invention the construction substantially as set forth in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A hand stamp comprising a torose shaped hand piece, provided with a hole extending longitudinally through the center thereof, connecting with a cap-shaped chamber in the lower end thereof, an elastic pad stretched over the lower end of said chamber and extending up over the lower end of said hand piece, a plunger, a portion of which is adapted to reciprocate in said hole. provided with an enlarged circular shaped lower end,
the lower surface of which is flat adapted to .press i egainst said elastic pad and place it In testimony whereof, Ihave hereunto into position for inking said stamp, a desubscribed my name in the presence of two' sign pad mounted centrally (in said elastic subscribing Witnesses.
pad over said chamber, a spring ring means I VVILLLIAM BING. for facilitating the stretching of said elastic Witnesses: paid over said hand piece and for attaching CLAUDE L. CHAMBERS,
it to the same, all substantially-as set forth. ABRAQI B. BOWMAN.
