Be it known. that I, NEVADA A. Gamma, a citizen of the United States, residing at Roll State of Wisconsin, have inventednew and useful Improvements in Sewing-Clamps, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improvement in, work holder, and more particularly to such as can be adapted for use with a sewing machine or other table, the object of cheap, and durable device adapted to be the invention being to provide a simple,

removably attached to a sewing machine table or other table so as to hold up dress materials, of any kind, to position the same while applying lace, 'ruflies, inserting, or other trimmings, as Well as for use in blind stitching, overcasting, hem stitching, j and various other kinds of fancy work, while the user is sewlng or otherwlse operatlng upon a the goods, and thus permitting of the full of parts hereinafter fully described and particular part of the work. i

' With the above object in view, and others which will appear as the nature of the invention progresses, the improvement resides in'the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed. I

The improved clamp contemplates the employment of a substantially rectangular block designated by the numeral 1. This block 1 has its under face provided-with a facing 2 of some suitable soft material, so

that the said block will not injure the table or legs to whichthe device is adapted for application. The bottom face of the block is provided with a substantially U-shaped spring clamp 3. This clamp is formed of a single strand of resilient wire, having its free ends adjacent the convolutions 4 thereof extended to provide entering points whereby the said'clanip is secured-to the block. The forward portion of the clamp adjacent its connecting .member is bent downwardly to provide what may be termed a lip, the same affording an easy means hereby the clamp may be forced into engagement with the ledge of a table or the like and the block secured thereon. The upper face of the block v3 is also provided with aspring clamp 6. This clamp 6 is formed of a single strand of resilient wire and'has its ends provided with oppositely arranged convolutions. The extreme ends of the wire are extended beyond the said convolutions and the said extensions are inserted within the block adjacent the 'oppo-- site longitudinal edges thereof. Both of the clamps extend almost the entire length of the block, and while the clamp 4 upon the under face of the block doesnot contact with the said face, the clamp 6 upon the upper face of the block has its connecting portion or end firmly engaged withthe upper-face '75 the clamp and the p p of the block so as to tightly engage with material inserted between block.

7 The numeral 8 designates what I will term a lifting memberfor the clamp 6. This lifter has its body portion of asubstantially' U-shaped formation, and both of the legs formed by the said U-shaped member are ofl-set and are adapted to be trunnioned in suitable eyes arranged upon the opposite sides of the upper face of the block. the ends terminates adjacent the sides of the upper face of the block, while the second end is bent in an opposite direction to the said U-shaped member to provide a handle 9. The lifter also serves as a stop for limiting the insertion of the goods upon the block.

bination with a substantially rectangular block, of a spring clamp secured to the under face of the said block adjacent one of the transverse edges thereof, said clamp extending longitudinally of the block for the major portion of its length and having its free end bent downwardly and spaced therefrom to facilitate the attaching of the device upon a'table, a second spring clamp having one end secured to the upper face of the block immediately above the free end of the first-mentioned clamp, said clamp extending in the opposite direction from the first-mentioned clam and having its free end disposed above the fixed end thereof, the free end of the said clamp normally engaging the upper face of the block so as to effectively engage the material inserted therebetween, the said clamps having their free ends extending transversely across the block NEVADA A.
