WITNESSES: INVENTOR .ATTORNEY GERARD A. DE VLIEG,

PARSONS, 0F DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
coNcEALED HINGE.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, GERARD A. DE VLIEG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit7 county of Wayne, State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Concealed Hinges, and4 declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the same, psuch as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates toconcealed hinges and especially concealed hinges used in connection with automobile bodies.
It has for its object a new form of concealed hinge which is simpler in construction and by which the door may be accurately hung with greater facility.
In the drawings z-Figure l, is a perspective of a portion of the interior of an automobile body, showing the door closed. Fig. 2, is a perspective of a portion ofthe interior of an automobile body, showing the door swung open. F ig. 3, is a cross section through a portion of the body and door and through the hinge showing the hinge in the position it assumes when the door is closed. Fig. 4, is a similar View, showing the hinge and door in the positionthey assume when the door opens. F ig. 5, is a section 8--8 of Fig. 3.
A, isthe body of an automobile.
B is the door which is attached to a curved hinge arm l, by screws 2. The body A is faced with metal 3 and the door B is also faced with metal 3a. A strip Il, T- shaped in cross section, acts as a molding for the door and serves to overlap the spacing between ythe door B and the body A. It is, however, sufficiently spaced from the metal facing 3 to clear the same when the door swings open or closed. The curved .hinge arm l swings upon the pins 5 which are attached'to the hinge casing 6. This hinge Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed September 23, 1912.
Patented Dec. 10, 1912. Serial No. 721,775.
casing 6 is an integral part of the front plate 7 that is intended to be screwed into the interior side of the body when-a proper mortise has' been cut for the reception of the case 6. The purpose of this arrangement of having 4the face plate 7 screw into the interior side of the body is so that the hinge may be attached to the body when the door is closed and the 'screws driven into their proper places Without a resetting. The hinge arm 1 may be attachedto the door B by driving the screw 2 in. The door maythen be lifted into the door frame of the body and the hinge case 6 forced into a mortise in the body that has been cut for its reception. When the parts are thus in place, the plate 7 may be pressed against the side of the body and the screws driven thereinto in the exact position necessary to hang the door properly. In the concealed hinges with which I am familiar it has been necessary to hang the door when it is open, which has often required the resetting of the screws and has required consider able trouble in getting the adjustment correct. It will also be noticed that the hinge case 6 and the front plate 7 are an integral piece re-l quiring only a single casting and that the hinge arm l is a sigle piece attachable' to the door B and connectible with the hinge case 6 by a single knuckle pin 5.
What I claim is A concealed hinge, having in combination, a front plate adapted to be fastened to the inside of the body, a hinge case connected therewith and arranged to'fit into a mortise of a body, and a curved hinge arm pivoted in the interior of the hinge case, substantially as described.
In-testimony whereof, I sign this specili- S5 cation in the presence of two witnesses.
