The bell, as taken from the mold, is chnc'ked in a lathe in ordinary manner, and finished up with a flat Wuming-tool and burnishing-tool, and, when finished, a fine saw is 4used to divide one hemisphere with a saw-cut, e,-making a practical division snfiicient for vibra-tion in the iifont of the bell, and aviding the unsightly appearance of the ordinary wide slotted'throat shown in iig.,4.
