The said invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a face view of the said pinbox, case or receptacle; and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 is a face view of the said pin-box, case or receptacle, in its reversed position, with a number of pins extending therefrom, ready for the extraction of one or more of said pins from the box or receptacle; and Fig. l is an edge-view of the said box, case or receptacle. Fig. 5 is a longitudinal vertical section of the said pin-box, case or receptacle, when in the position represented in said Fig. 3; Fig. 6 is a transverse vertical section, taken on line 66 in said Fig. 3; and Fig. 7 is an end view of the said pinbox, case or receptacle, showing the. pin-extracting end-portion of the said box or receptacle. Be it known that T, SAMUEL H. GROBMAN a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pin Boxes or Cases; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying and to char drawings, acters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention has reference, generally, to improvements in receptacles in which may be carried pins, and other similar articles; and, the present invention has reference, more particularly, to a novel construction of pin-box or receptacle in the form of a piece of jewelry which may be made in the manner of a charm or locket to be suspended from a watch-chain or the like.

The present invention has for its principal object to provide a novel and simply constructed, as well as a neat and ornamental pin-box, case or receptacle which is made with a hinged or other removable cover for placing pins, or the like, within said box or receptacle, and provided also with means for readily withdrawing one or more of said pins, or the like, from within said box, case or receptacle, without opening the lid or cover of said box or receptacle.

-The invention has for its further object to provide a handy article in the form of a piece of jewelry to be worn as a watchcharm or chatelaine, in which pins may be conveniently carried, thereby doing away with afiixing pins upon the back of the lapel of a coat, or upon any other part of a piece of wearing apparel. 2, of any desired configuration and any suit- Other objects of this invention not at this able ornamentation, the said body or shell time more particularly enumerated will be 2 being formed with an open end with which is connected in a pivoted or hingelike manner, as at 3, a suitable lid or cover 4: which may also be of any usual configuration and suitable ornamentation. Near the opposite end-portion of the said main body or shell 2, and extending outwardly from the narrow edges of said main. body or shell 2 are suitably formed pintles, as 5, with which are pivotally connected the endportions of a suitably formed and ornamental bail 6 which may be provided with a loop-shaped portion 7, or other suitably clearly understood from the following detailed description of the present invention.

With the various objects of the present invent-ion in view, the invention consists, primarily, in the novel pin-box, case or receptacle hereinafter set forth, and made in the form of a watch-charm or chatelaine; and, the invention consists, furthermore, in the novel arrangements and combinations of the several parts of the device, as well as in the details of the construction of the same, all of which will. be more particularly deformed device or member which serves as a means for suspending the pin-box, case or receptacle 1 from a chain or the like when worn as a watch-charm or chatelaine. The said main body or shell 2 as will be seen from an inspection of Figs. 2 and 7, is provided in its upper end 8 with a narrow and laterally extending slot or opening, as 9, said slot or opening extending for a short distance down one of the narrow sides or edges of the said body or shell 2, as at 10, said slot or opening 10 being provided at its end wit-h a slightly enlarged open part, as 11, substantially asillustrated in Fig. 4 of the drawings.

In the modification represented in Figs. 8 and 9 of the drawings, the said main body or shell 2 is provided in its end with a laterally extending slot or opening, as 12, said slot or opening extending at its end-portions for short distances along the narrow sides or edges of the said body or shell, as at 13, and each slot or opening 13 being provided at its end with a slightly enlarged open part, as 14.

Having thus briefly described the general arrangements and construction of the several parts com rising the novel pin-box, case or receptac e 1, I will now set forth its use.

Normally the pin-box, is carried in the positions indicated in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings. To fill the box with pins or the like, it is held to one side, the lid or cover being opened, and a num ber of pins, or the like, are placed within the box or receptacle, so that the pointed ends of the pins will all point toward the slotted end-portion of the body or shell 2 of the box or receptacle. The lid or cover is then closed, and the box or receptacle 1 in the posit-ion represented in said figures 1 and 2 can be worn from a chain as a watch-charm or chatelaine. To extract one or more of the pins, the box, case or receptacle is brought into its reversed position, indicated in Figs. 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 of the drawings, whereupon the pointed end-portions of the pins will enter the slottedendportion of the said main body or shell 2, and the heads of said pins being larger than the width of either slot or opening 9 or 12, will be retained in their suspended relation from the slotted end-portion of the body or case or receptacle shell 2, as shown. One or more of the said suspended pins, in the construction represented in Figs. 1 to 7 inclusive, can now be slid along the slot or opening and into the slot or opening 10, and then removed from the larger open part 11, the head of the pin being smaller than said open part 11, as will be clearly evident.

In the construction represented in said Figs. 8 and 9 of the drawings, the suspend ed pin or pins can be moved in either direction in the slot or opening 12, and into either of the side-slots or openings 13,-and then finally removed from the respective larger opening 14, as will be self-evident.

From the foregoing description of my present invention it will be clearly seen that I have devised a simple, neat and ornamental device, in the form of a box, case or receptacle, for readily carrying pins or the like therein, and from which one or more of the pins can be easily and quickly ex tracted without opening the lid or cover of the box or receptacle, except when it is desired to replenish the box or receptacle with a fresh'supply of pins or the like.

I claim A pin-box or case comprising a main chambered body having an open portion at one end, and a cover for closing said end, said chambered body being provided in its upper end-portion with a laterally extending slot, said slot being of greater width than the shank of a pin, but of less width than the head of the pin, all for the suspension of thepin fromsaid slot, said slot extending also along one of the side-edges of said chambered body, and the latter portion of the slot terminating in an enlarged open part for the passage of the head of the pin therethrough, and a bail pivotally connected with the said chambered body near the upper and slotted end-portion thereoi for the suspension of said pin-box or case from a chain or the like, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
