BOTTLE-STOPPER.
Application filed February 8, 1912.
Specification of Letters Patent.
' Patented Deo.3,1912. Serial No. 676,245.
To all whom it may concern:
. Be it known that I, EDWARD RAUSGH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Del Norte, in the county of Rio Grande, State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle- Stoppers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to bottle stoppers and has for an object to provide a stopper in the nature of a substantially egg-shaped hollow body within which a valve is concealed, the body having an axial nipple at each end one of which closes the neck of the bottle and the other of which is equipped with a sieve or strainer, this novel stopper being formed in two parts which coact in housing the ball valve and stops therefor in such a manner as to permit the ready assembling of all the parts in a minimum time and with minimum labor.
WVith the above object in view the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, it being understood that various modifications may be made in the minor details of construction within the scope of the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification :Figure 1 is a side elevation of the stopper. F ig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the stopper. Fig. 8 is a plan view of the lower half of the stopper.
Referring now to the drawing in which like characters of reference designate similar parts, the stopper is shown to comprise a hollow egg-shaped body formed of two halves 10 and 11, the lower half being formed with an axial nipple 12 which is designed to close the bore of a bottle neck, and the upper half being formed with an axial nipple 13 upon the end face of which a filtering element 14 is mounted, there being axial ducts formed through both of these nipples to permit of discharge of the bottle contents. The lower half is circumferentially cut away to form an annular rib 15, and the upper half is internally cut away to form a socket 16 for the reception of the rib. A ball valve 17 is loosely fitted within the lower half and for holding this ball valve in position a plurality of crossed pins 18 are terminally engaged in orifices 19 formed in the rib. Each pin is straight and is secured in position by simply being thrust endwise through alined orifices in the rib, the wall of the socket formed in the upper half contacting with the terminals of the pin and preventing displacement of the same.
In order to prevent tampering with the ball valve, the mating halves of the stopper are rigidly secured together in any preferred manner acommon expedient being to solder the rib in the groove.
It will be noted that the stopper above described is composed of but two principal parts, that the ball valve is entirely concealed within the egg-shaped body of the stopper, and furthermore that the parts may be readily assembled in a minimum time and with minimum labor.
What is claimed, is
A stopper including a hollow egg-shaped body formed in two parts, one of the parts having an annular rib, and the other having a socket receiving said rib, a ball valve in one of said halves, and a plurality of crossed pins engaged terminally through orifices formed in said annular rib and operating to hold said ball valve in place.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
EDWARD RAUSCH.
