To all whom may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOSEPH TnIMBAoH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rye,
in the county of \Vestchester and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention comprehends improve ments in non-refillable bottles and has for its object the provision of a bottle having means contained within the neck thereof which will prevent the bottle being refilled after having been once emptied, said means being of extremely simple construction and very easy to assemble in its operative position.
The invention also aims to generally improve non-refillable bottles to render them more useful, practical, and commercially desirable.
With these and other objects in view, as will become more apparent as the description proceeds the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view through the neck of my improved bottle, Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken on the plane of line 2-2 of Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the non-refillable means, and, Fig. 4 is a bottom plan view thereof.
In the preferred embodiment of my invention, I provide a bottle having a neck 5 which tapers gradually toward its inner end and which is enlarged adjacent said end to form an annular recess 6 and a shoulder 7. lVithin the neck is secured a substantially cylindrical valve cage casing or container, generally designated 8. This casing extends the full length of the neck 5, is substantially cylindrical to conform to the interior of the neck, and is formed in two similar sections, designated by the numeral 9. The inner ends of the sections 9 are longitudinally slotted, as indicated by the numeral 10, to form spring fingers or jaws 11 of a somewhat segmental shape in cross section. These jaws are formed upon their exterior faces adjacent their lower ends with enlargements 12, which are adapted to spring outwardly into the recess 6 under the shoulder 7 and lock the housing within the bottle neck. Since the neck tapers slightly toward its inner end, the housing cannot be forced inwardly beyond a certain predetermined distance. A preferably cork or rubber sleeve 13 surrounds a portion of the sections 9 so as to prevent a leakage.
Each of the sections 9 is internally recessed so as to form, when the two sections are brought together, a pocket to receive the valve cage. This cage is formed of an inner section, generally designated 14, and an outer sect-ion, generally designated 15. The inner section has a frusto-co-nical body 16 having a cylindrical neck or tube 17 formed upon its inner or smaller end. This tubular portion extends between the spring fingers or jaws 11 and has a rubber or cork sleeve 18 positioned between the jaws 11 and said tubular portion. The sleeve surrounds the tubular portion 17 and bears against the jaws or fingers 11. A ball valve 19 is positioned within the frusto-conical body 16 and seats against the walls thereof when the bottle is in a vertical position.
The outer portion 15 of the valve cage is of a tubular formation, having its inner end enlarged to a diameter corresponding with the opposed end of the body 16. This enlarged inner end has formed integrally therewith a semispherical wall 20, provided with a plurality of apertures 21. The wall 20 prevents the ball 19 passing out of the cage when the bottle is inverted but permits the liquid contents of the bottle to be discharged since the radius of the ball valve is smaller than the radius of the essentially semispherical wall 20.
To assemble the non-refillable means within a bottle neck 5, the ball 19 is first positioned within the body 16 and this body placed within one of the sections 9. The outer cage section 15 is then placed preferably within this section 9 and the coiiperating section of the valve cage housing placed over the valve cage. Then the sleeve 13 is slipped over the two sections of the valve cage housing so as to hold them together and the sleeve 18 slipped over the tubular section 17. It is to be understood that while I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, 1 do not wish to be limited to this exact construction, combina tion, and arrangement of parts, but may make such changes as will fall within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, I claim 2 A 11011-T6fill21bl6 bottle comprising a bottle with tapered neck, said neck provided with a cutaway portion at its lower end. forming a shoulder, a valve cage provided with enlarged portions at its lower extremity and adapted to conform with the cutaway portion and the neck of said bottle, a :trusto-conical body mounted in said. cage and formed in a pair of sections and adapted to receive a ball, said frusto-conical body provided with a tube at its lower end, one of the sections of the body portion being pro vided with an enlarged portion at its lower extremity and adapted to register with the frusto-conical body, a dome-shaped cap secured to the lower ext :mity of the upper section of the body portion and novidcd with perforations therein and providing a stop for the ball.
