' Be itknown that 1, ANDREW A. NEAVE, a resident of Pittsburgh, Allegheny county, Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Shear-Tables, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, rei'erence being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a View partly in side elevation and partly in vertical section of a shear table embodying my invention; Figs. 2 and 3 are some of the parts in difieren't positions; Fig. d is a detail sectional view of the actuating mechanism; Fig. 5 1s a detail view, hereinafter referred to; and Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. 1 but showing a modification.
My invention has relation to shear tables of the class which are capable of being raised and lowered, and also of being moved longitudinally with respect to the shears, the object of the invention being to provide a table of this character, together with actuating mechanism therefor, of simple and etlicient construction and arrangement.
The nature of my invention will be best understoodby reference to the accompanying drawings, in which 1' have shown the preferred embodiment thereof, and which will now he described, it being nremised, however, that various changes may be made in the details of construction and arrangement or the parts by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention as defined in the appended claims.

The opposite end of the piston or plunger 15 extends into a fixed cylinder 18,
within which it is arranged to reciprocate. The two cylinders 13 and 18 are connected by the respective pipes 19 and 29 with a suitable source of pressure, such as a hydraulic accumulator. By filling both cylinders 13 and 18 and locking the liquid therein by means or the valves 21 and 22, the table section 1 will be maintained in the in Fig. 1. When power is admitted into the cylinder 23 to move the cross head 25 forwardly, the table section 4 is moved back to its former position shown in Fig. 1.
In order to permit the rearward movement of the table section 4 in the manner just described, it isnecessary to provide tneans for moving the end roller 5 of the table section 5 out of the-way. For this purpose, the roller 5*, together with the next adjacent roller 5", are journaled in a frame member 32, which is pivoted to turn about 25 the axis 33 of the roller 5 and to cause thls turning movement simultaneously with the movement of the table section 4, the frame section 32 is connected by a link 34 with the cross head 25. As the cross-head 3o moves rearwardly, the frame member 32 'is turned on the axis shown in Fig. 3, in which the roll 5 isbelow the roll 5. V

w By means of the movable roll 5, I provide for a continuous roll table in both the forward and backward positions of the table section 4, thus eliminating the gap which it has usually been necessary to leave between 5 the two sections when the movable section is in its forward position.
Instead of using hydraulic cylindersas the motive devices, it is obviou that various other forms of motors may be employed.
For instance, in Fi 6 I have shown an arrangement in which the movable table section 4 is supported on the rockers 9 One of the rockers 9% is fulcrumed at 34* upon one arm of a weight lever 35, which in turn has a fulcrum at 36 on a suitable support 3.7. The lower arm of this rocker is connected by link 38 with a rocker 39 fixed to a shaft 40 and having its other arm connected by link 41 with the other rocker 9.

It will be obvious that the exact arrange ment of the weights and the actuating connections may be widely varied; that other motive devices may be employed for-controlling the table movements, and that other departing from the spirit and scope of my invention as defined in the claims. In these claims, the term motive devices is to be understood as including either a weight or weights, or the combination with a weight or weights of other motive means.
My invention provides a movable shear table section and actuating mechanism therefor-which is simple in its construction and mode of operation; which can be made to readily move downwardly under the action of the descending shear blade, and which can be readily driven by a bodily up and down movement, and which can be easily moved sufiiciently away from the shear machine to permit the crop endsto drop through between the ends of the movable section and the shear frame. These several operations can be controlled by the simple manipulation of the valves controlling the several power cylinders employed. I

A vertically movable shear table, movable supporting members for said table, and a motive device connected to said members, said motive device. comprising two power cylinders, a piston or plunger having its opposite end portions extending into the respective-cylinders, and means for independently locking and releasing the operating fluid in said cylinders; substantially as described.
3. A vertically movable shear table, rockers upon which the table is mounted, a cross head having actuating connections with the rockers, power cylinders for moving the cross-head 1n opposite directions, and means whereby the operatlng fluid may be inde- "pendent-1y locked in or released from the respective cylinders; substantially as described.
4. A vertically movable shear table, movable supporting members therefor, and an actuating device for said members and table, said device comprising a fixed cylinder, a movable cylinder, a piston or plunger extending into both cylinders, connections between the piston or plunger and one of said members, and connections between the movable cylinder and the other member; substantially as described.
5. A shear table comprising a fixed section and a longitudinally movable section, the fixed section having an end member movable out of the ath of movement of the movable section; su mtantially as described.
6. A shear table comprising a fixed roller section, and a longitudinally movable roller section. the fixed section having its end roll movable out of the path of movement of the movable section; substantially as described.
7. A shear table having a fixed section, and a longitudinally movable section, the fixed section having a pivotal end portion, substantially as described.
8. A shear table having a fixed section and a longitudinally movable section, the fixed section having a pivotal end portion, together With connections for simultaneously moving the movable section and the pivotal end portion; substantially as described.
9. A shear .table having a fixed table section anda longitudinally movable table section, the fixed table section having a movable end portion. and power means for simultaneously actuating the movable table section and the movable end portion of the fixed section; substantially as described.
