REVOLVING LADDER-SUPPORT FOR SILOS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 3,1912.
lb all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARENCE ELLIOTT HEDRICK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newton, in the county of Harvey and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Revolving Ladder Support for Silos, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in revolving supports for suspension ladders, said support to be suspended from center pole on roof of a silo in such a manner that rollers on the support will operate in a circular motion on the upper side of silo roof near the eaves. Continuing below the rollers the rods are so curved that the lower ends of the same extend below and under the eaves close to the silo wall. The lower ends of these rods are connected together by a horizontal cross rod upon which the swinging ladder will be suspended, and curved rods are also connected by a cross rod just below the rollers holding them in their place.
The object of my invention is, 1st, to provide a revolving support for suspension ladders for use in the work of painting and repairing the outer walls of silos; 2nd, to provide facilities for the proper movement and adjustment of the ladder at any position around the outside wall, at the same time reducing the friction of motion upon the silo roof by means of a truck rolling in a circle upon the roof near the eaves. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing, of which Figure l, is a front view of the ladder support in operative position on the silo and Fig. 2 is a side view of the same. Fig. 3, is a transverse section through the collar members 2 and Fig. 4 is a cross section of the hollow rod 3.
No. 1 refers to U bolt, No. 2 to collars and set screws, No. 3 hollow rods receiving ends of U bolt and also extending through rollers thence curving under silo eaves. No. 4 rollers. No. 5 cross rod holding rollers in position and attaching hollow rods together. N o. 6 curves in hollow rods. No. 7 cross rod for ladder attachment.
I claim;
The combination in, a revolving silo-ladder support of a metal rod curved in the form of a U-bolt, which being looped around the center pole of the roof of the silo, holds the ladder support in place, allowing for a free circular movement of the support upon the silo roof, the ends of said U-bolt extending downward into hollow rods and being secured in place by set screws, said hollow rods extending downward and passing through rollers which operate upon the silo roof at the eaves, below the rollers the rods curving under the eaves, the lower ends coming close to the silo wall, said hollow rods are fastened together below the rollers above the eaves by a horizontal cross rod which holds the rollers in place and also by another horizontal cross rod at the lower ends of the hollow rods below the eaves which cross rod forms means for attachment for a suspension ladder, whereby and because of the free circular movement of the support the ladder may be adjusted to any position around the silo wall.
