To whom. it may concern Be it known that I, ALDRT F. GUE, of Eastmanville, in the county of Ottawa and State of Michigan,

have invented a newaud useful Improvement in Ma-.

chine for Cut-ting Bevels `on Spoke- 'lenons;v and do declare that the following is a truc and accurate description thereof, referencebeing `hadto the accompanying drawing and te the letters of reference marked thereon, andbeinr a part of this specification.

`The nature of this inventionrelates to theconstruction of a machine for cutting the necessary bevels upon the tenons of spokes for wheel vehicles, whereby the necessity of laying out7 the work is avoided, and much' time saved and labor economized.

The invention consists in a `proper frame, secured to a bed, and providedviith -a reciprocating sash, which receives motion from a lever, said sash being provided in turn with a` suitable'linife, and in prof vidingthe bed with suitable gauges and a scalc,rby means of which the bevel is determined, and the spoke held in place while being operated npon,`as more full y hereinafter described.

A represents a bed, to which is secured the frame B, which 'is provided with slides, C, ybetweenwh'ich `the sash or'tgateD has a vertical motion, derived l'rom the handle or lever E, which `is pivoted to the stainlard F, `and connected with said sash by the strap G.

A guide, H, projects above the top of theframc in the rear ofthe lever, the latterbeing providedfwith a loop or hook uponits rear side, to embrace said guide. The sash D engages with the slides (i by means of grooves,`a, in its sides, as shown,.and has secured to it, by any suitable means, the knife I, with a diagonal cutting-edge, h, for the .purpose of `givinf?Y a drawing eut. l

J vertical guide, 'provided wilh a slot., c, and is rigidly secured at its lower end, and at right angles therewith, to the boltK, which passes through the bed, as shown vin dotted lines, and which is provided -witha thumb-nut, (l. guide enable the operator to adapt it to any desned width ot'tenon.

L is a horizontal guide or catch, which, by means of the bolt and thumb-nut h, has a vert-ical movement in the slot c, and is designed to admit any required thickness of tenen, and prevent the spoke from turning while ,being operated upon vby the knife.

M is a graded scale, inserted in the face ot` the bed, for the purpose of determininf,r the desired bevel to be given to the tenou.

N is another vertical guide, rigidly secured at itslower end, and at right angles therewith to the bolt I?, Vshown in dotted lilies, which passes through the bed, and which` is provided with thumb-nut 7.1. Changes in-the position ot' thisV `guide enable the operator to hold the spoke in the desired position, relative to the graded scale, to receive the required bevel from the knife.

The operation oi' this machine has` been so fully set forth that afurther description is deemed unneees- ,sa-ry.
