STOPPE-R FOR RECEPTACLES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led Hay 31, 1912. Serial No.r'l00,888.
Patented Nov. 19, 1912.
. To all whom itmay cofwem:
Be it known that I, Louis WoJIDKow, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Stoppers for Receptacles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of this invention is to provide a screw stopper for receptacles of various kinds. Such screw lStoppers are oftentimes anchored to the receptacles by means of a chain, and as these Stoppers are screwed into place the chain becomes fouled or twisted 'and thereby the operation of the stopperY is obstructed. Y
A feature of the present invention is to so connect the chain with the stopper proper that the chain'will not be fouled or twisted in the operation of the stopper.
The invention consists of a screw stopper having a laterally'extended finger or sweep, such as an l.'shaped piece, pre erably swlveled in it, and thisfinger is connected with the chain which in turn'lias its other end anchored in some portion of the rece tacle.
In illustration of the invention, have shown it applied to ayhot water plate, the novel features of which form the subject of an application for atent of even date herewith, but obvious the invention is not limited to this sing e use, and the hot water plate is merel selected as illustrative of one application o the invention.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating the invention, in the two figures of which like parts are similarly designated, Figure 1 is a top lan view of a hot water plate supplied wit my stopper, the sto er eing removed and' drawn at one side. 1g. 2 is a transverse section, on a larger scale, showin a-portion of the plate and its filling an ouring spout supplied with the stopper o this invention.
1' may indicate the metal portion of the hot water plate, and 2 a ceramic top ortion thereof, and 3 the detachable p ateholdin flange connectirf the late 2 and the bo y rtion 1 in a etacha. le manner. 4 is the and pouring spout.' 5 are the handles, and 6 the handle-securing devices, all substantiallyas in the construction set forth in the application referred to.
As shown, e cover plate 7 of the filling and pouring spout has a collar 8 screwthreaded internally. The stopper 9 has an mterior flange 10 screwthreaded externally to engage the screwthreaded collar 8, and it also has an outside flange 11 which may be knurled or otherwise constructed to afford a finger-hold for the operator in turning it into and out of place on the collar 8. 12 is an L-shaped piece, herein referred to as the laterally extended lnger or sweep. This fnger'preferably is'swiveled at .13 in the stopper 9, so as to permit the stopper to turn freely, and having se-4 cured at its free end one end of an suitable anchoring chain or other device 14, Whose other end is attached to the receptacle.
As the stopper is screwed to place, the linger 12 may turn with it, but it could never foul -or become tangled with the chain 14, because its free end extends suilicientl far in a lateral direction to hold the chain oil' from entanglement with it. The swiveling of the linger in the stopper'aids in securing this result.
Obviously the t of the invention here is the provision o a finger projecting laterally from the stopper to'suc an extent as to prevent the chain from bein fouled or twisted in turning the stopper into and out of place, and whether the said finger be swiveled in the stopper or otherwise connected with it to effect the object stated.
What I claim is:-
1. A stopper for receptacles, adapted to be turned into place, combmed with an anchoring medium, and a member extending laterally from the lst opper and connecting it with the anchoring medium and ada ted tol prevent the fouling or twisting of t e an# choringmedium in turning the stopper into and out of place.
2. A stopper for receptacles, comprisin a screw cap having a laterally extende linger swiveled therein, and an anchoring medium fixed to the outer end of the finger by one end and ada ted to be secured in the lreceptacle by the ot er end.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto l set my hand this'29th day of May A. D.
