with integrally cast anchoring brackets in lugs 6 comprising horizontal bottom Iates and laterally spaced flanges, which embrace the sides of the tie bar's,and which bottom plates are provided; with slots "2'', through which the down-turhed ends-.5 of the tie bars 4 are inserted. Rivets 8 passed through the inner end portions of the said tie bars and through the bottom plates at the saidanchofing brackets, rigidly seen-re the inner endsof the said tie bars to the said brackets and cooperate with'the lu z'i to rigidly secure the said tie bars to e side frame. This simple expedient of interlocklag the lugs on the ends of the tie bars in slots or perforations in the anchoring brackets permits of a rigid connection between the tie bars and side frames by the action of a single rivet to each tie bar. The construction is, therefore not only simple, of small cost and easy to assemble, but-is strorgand eflicient for the purposes had in view.
at I claim is:- 1 1.'In a car truck, the combination with a side frame having an anchoring bracket thereon, said bracket having a pocket-1&6 tie bar seat, of a tie bar having its inner'end bent laterally and inserted into the said pocket-like seat, and a rivet rigidly connect ing said tie bar to said bracket.

- JOHN C. BARBER.
ToallwhmnitmayaoncemJ V Y Be it known that I, JOHN G. BARBESL: citizen of the United States, resid" at cago, in the county of Cook and tate of Illinois, have invented certain new and use- Improvements in Car-Trucks; and I do clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to car trucks,- and more particularly to car trucks wherein east side frames are employed; and-the invention is directed to the provision of ilnpro'ved'tie bars and means for attaching the same to the cast side frames. In car trucks of this type it has sometimes been the practice to emp y a single. long tie bar for each side frame, but in later developments, it has been customaryto employ two short tie bars,,one for each journal box, and to rigidly secure the same to lugs cast onthe side frames.
' an extremely simple,
y invention provides highly eflicicnt and generally improved these tie bars to the means for connecting truck side frames.
In the accompanying. drawings which ca te like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a. view in side elevation, showing a portion of a truck side frame having a tie bar attached thereto in accordance with my invention, some parts being broken away and some parts being indicated by dotted lines; and Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the truck side frame andtie bar shown in F ig. 1.
The numeral 1 indicates the'cast truck side frame, the ends'of' which are adapted to rest upon the journal boxes 2, which latter are indicated in 'the drawings by dotted lines only. The usual nut-equipped bolts 3 are used to rigidly clampthe ournal boxes 2 between the ends of the side frame 1 and the ends of the tie bars 4:- These tie bars 4 are preferably made of flat steel bars, the inner ends of which are bent downward to afiord anchoring lugs 5. For the application of these tie bars, the side frames 1 are provided Witnesses:
